A White Blazer

I went to Belk's (a local department store) this weekend to return something, and had some free time so I wandered around a bit. I came across this white blazer from French Connection on sale for $80 down from $238:

As I mentioned last week, now that I'm getting closer to my thirties, I want to buy quality pieces that I can use for a long time. This jacket is awesome! It's even on sale on the website if you are interested.

There isn't much more time left to wear a white blazer like this, but I am hoping I can use it going into fall. And of course Pinterest came to the rescue!

On My Spring Wardrobe Radar

This past weekend I ran to Target for some hair gel and lip gloss and came out with a spring wardrobe. Don't you hate when that happens???? Or love it?? haha

These pants were a great find. I have some junk in the trunk but they fit really well and the cobalt blue color is so perfect! (They look so much better on than in the pic.. click the link and see them on the model)

I've started to work out and eat (a little) better.. my goal is to fit and look good in some bright pants like this:

[ via ]

If I wore them now it'd be like a giant neon sign pointing straight to my thighs ;)

When the weather warms up I like to trade my boots in for some super comfortable heels/wedges. They have to look good AND be comfortable since I am on my feet all day long. My secret - my favorite brand is Aerosoles. I want these for the summer:

And add these from Aldo to the mix and I'll be good to go:

I know I won't win any awards for "Most Stylish", but if you like practical/budget friendly wardrobe finds, I'm your girl! :)

It's getting close.....

It's getting close.. just a couple more months....

J.Crew is having a 20% off + free shipping swim suit sale and I took full advantage of it. We are renting a beach house this May with our best friends from college and it was time for me to get some grown up swim suits (up until now I've always gotten them at Target and they barely last a summer).

It's also time for me to hit the gym.

Spring Staples

It was supposed to snow last night, crazy! I don't think it did, or if it did I was asleep. But it's back up to the 50s today and will be in the 70's by the end of the week.

Since the weather has been pretty warm this "winter", I have my mind set on some wardrobe staples for the springtime.

I tried these jeans on at Anthro before Christmas and they are very flattering... I'll be honest - I have some junk in the trunk!

The new TOMS ballet flats... I have a feeling once I get these, they will be the only shoe I wear.

Blazers have become my go-to closet staple. I throw them on with some jeans and boots and feel polished yet comfortable enough to run around town all day. I love this peach blazer from Top Shop!

I also think this jacket is beautiful.. it's chiffon so I can imagine the drape is so pretty!

Let's talk about sweaters....

The weather is cooling down here in NC and I love it!! But I really, really need some sweaters. Last winter I found myself freezing and desperate so I went to Old Navy and bought three sweaters.. cheap cheap cheap. I need to get some of (better) quality this year so I can actually wear them again next year.

Here are some that I think would be good staples in my closet...

Note To Self

Go to thrift store to find a knee-length floral polyester dress to wear with black tights/leggings and boots.

My Fall Fashion Round Up

It's about this time every year that I start getting super excited for fall. Fall is my FAVORITE season!!

I've already started making a list of fall fashion items I need for my closet. Nothing too crazy, but staples that will help round out my wardrobe.

fall

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

As I get older I've started to understand my style and I've been trying to only go for pieces that fit it. In the past I went the trendy route but ended up feeling stupid in certain clothes. Putting together fabrics and textures for home comes naturally to me but I'm not going to lie - I really struggle with my clothes. What I've learned works for me clothing-wise is classic, simple pieces. Examples via my Pinterest:

I've also decided to start wearing my glasses more. My favorite glasses are the ones I linked to above from Zenni.

What is on your wish list for fall? (Bonus points for links!)

outfit to room

I don't usually do outfit to room posts... mainly because there are a lot of bloggers that do, and do it much better than I would. But how cute is Kendi's outfit here:

A funny story about Kendi and her awesome blog.... I was sitting on the couch with my laptop going through my blog roll, and my husband was sitting right next to me. He glanced over and saw I was looking at Kendi's blog and said "man you're obsessed with that girl!" I was like "huh? I'm just going through my blogs" and he said "you have pictures all over the house of her." hahahaha. Okay, he was kind of right.... I do have a couple pictures hanging in my closet and on my inspiration boards in my office. But it's only for outfit ideas that would work for my own wardrobe. Kendi- I swear I'm not a super scary stalker :)

Anyway, this outfit reminds me of Lee Jofa's new Lily Pulitzer collection.. so here we go.

room

This isn't a space I would normally design, but I thought it'd be fun to go outside my comfort zone on this summer Monday morning.

Spring Threads

The weather forecast is looking good for the next two weeks and I have spring clothes on the mind. Anyone else?

I put together a little "wish list" board for some spring clothes...

Each piece could easily get me through from spring to summer. And those pink flats! I wear a lot of neutrals + jeans so bright, pretty flats would easily upgrade an everyday outfit. :)

ps - you may not really think "boots" when you think spring... but I've been searching for the perfect pair of tan boots since the fall. I tried the Intyce but they did not work out so well. I'm hoping these Ted Baker boots work!!

And speaking of clothes & shoes...

I just ordered these awesome boots this morning:

A great deal, too.. they are real suede leather for less than $60. I love the little metal detail.

I got them specifically to wear with wide leg jeans. I was inspired by this image from the gap:

Slowly adding staples to create my "adult" wardrobe. I'll keep you updated :)

Let's talk clothing.

I don't talk about clothes too much here but lately it's been on my mind. I've been reading Kendi's blog a lot, and especially her posts about a working closet. I've always been a super frugal shopper when it comes to my clothing... shopping at Marshalls and Target, etc. The pieces look great the first 5 times, but then I just feel frumpy. I'm turning 27 this year and I think it's time to start buying QUALITY versus QUANTITY. (but it doesn't mean I'll be breaking the bank). She describes it perfectly here: "I would spend $100 on 5 or 6 things that I never wore and then lust over 1 skirt at J.Crew that I would probably wear all of the time, saying I could never afford that $100 skirt. Well that was true, because I was literally throwing my money away on cheap items that I only bought because they were cheap."

So it's a new year, and I'm going to change the way I think about clothes. Marshalls and Target, I'll miss you, but I'm moving on to bigger and better things.. like J.Crew :) (Although this may mean I can only buy one piece of clothing in a three month span.)

Along with this new mindset, I'm going to focus on purchasing staples for my closet; only which I really really need.

First up is a new pair of boots. I current have a vintage pair I wear all the time but they have given up on me. I've blogged about these before.. I do think they are the perfect pair. Cognac goes with anything, and they are "dressy" enough to wear to client meetings:

There's only one problem - it seems to be sold out everywhere in a size 8.

I've also added these to my wish list:

A great jacket that would go with ANYTHING.

How about you? Do you have any closet staples that you could not LIVE without?

ps- I'm going to be selling some of the pieces here on the blog that don't work. aka - great stuff from college that doesn't fit me anymore haha

Today's post is about fashion.

Today's post is about fashion. It's almost fall, and fall is my favorite time of the year for clothes. Also, I was just introduced to Kendi Everyday, and I'm wildly inspired.

I'm a minimilist, so I don't need too many clothes. A few jeans, a good handful of tops, and a good handful of cardigans/jackets. A couple boots and a couple flats and I'm good. Here are some new things for fall that will help complete my wardrobe:

Fall Fashion Scores

Well, it's officially late August (wtf) and I'm ready for fall! Yesterday, I went to Marshalls/Home Goods* to return a lamp, and found myself in the shirts department. I love Marshalls shirts. They are my weakness. They must have just restocked because I really hit the jackpot.

(sorry they are wrinkled)

I love that each shirt has a little something extra/unexpected. And I feel like they all look like they could have come from J.Crew/Anthro/Banana, but were half the price.

My favorite details....

Every shirt or cardigan was less than $20.

If you are running errands this weekend, stop by a Marshalls!

(ps- they had AH-mazing boots, but I hit my budget limit so that will have to be for another day).

*There is a Home Goods right near my house, and it has a Marshalls attached to it. This is very very dangerous because I go to Home Goods very often for clients. But I somehow always wander over to the Marshalls side.

It's about that time...

Time for swimwear! Every weekend this summer we'll be busy on house stuff, but our new community has a pool that I'd really like to get to once and a while. I haven't bought a bathing suit since college (!), and they all are a bit too skimpy now for this married old hag ;)

I just adore these suits from J.Crew!

You know you're getting old when you seriously consider a one piece! This is pink seersucker. It's so sweet.

I'd like any of the above, paired with this hat (also from J.Crew):
