Boots!

It's September! I love September and I love the fall. It's not quite fall weather here yet (Okay, CNN, we get it.. it's humid here! You don't have to keep complaining about it!), and I have BOOTS on the brain.

Seriously, I feel like every fall I think about boots. It's because I haven't found "the ones" yet. But I have worked my butt off this summer and I am going to treat myself to a nice pair of boots.

Here's the thing... I want a pair that doesn't feel super casual, that I can wear to client meetings with jeans and a pretty top. And I'm having a hard time finding some that don't have that "slouchy" look. Like a nice, firm riding boot.

I tried the Frye Melissa boot last season and they were terrible on me. I'm thinking of trying Frye's Paige Tall Riding Boot:

But even these really nice, expensive boots seem to have a weird slouchy thing going on:

I love Zappo's videos of people wearing the boots.. so helpful!

These look really pretty, and I like the heel and color:

Do you guys have any recommendations?

  1. I am loving Tory Burch's boots every year, and still can't seem to get 'The Selma' pair out of my head so I plan to scour ebay. DVF also has incredible tall boots. I got a great pair from Browns last year that I was so happy with and found where more than appropriate worn with a dressier outfit for meetings and such.

  2. I am so with you. I am not a slouchy boot girl - I want something to look nice with skinny jeans and a blouse, be comfortable, not cost a fortune, and be the perfect shade of cognac. Is that too much to ask?! :)

  3. I am in love with Duo Boots- mostly because I have really hard to fit calves and they have a ton of calf sizes to choose from- proper fit can sometimes fix that slouchiness. They come from the UK, but shipping is free so you only have to pay a bit for return shipping if you don't like them.

  4. Last year I went to DSW and tried on almost every pair - I ended up with some brown boots just as you described, not slouchy, by Ralph Lauren. It might be worth a trip, lots of options. Good luck!

  5. I have struggled to find a relatively inexpensive pair of cognac tone riding boots that fit my petite/slim frame for the last couple of years. I'm hesitant on Duo out of the UK because I often find that buying online doesn't work out the best -- I love a boot or shoe online, but the color or proportions are different when I see it in person. I did pick up a pair that fits better than any I've had before in the ankle and lower leg (not slouchy at all throughout). They are still a tad too big for me at the calf area, however, but it's just the gap, not the wrinkles/slouch factor, which is better than usual. I took them to a shoe repair shop, but they can't be altered. I'm hoping I can just wear with some leg warmers to even out the gap at my calf. Here are the ones I found at (local Charlotte) DSW -

I have a really hard time with boots, too! I always get a gap at the top. I like that last pair, and maybe the adjustable buckle is the ticket!

  7. I have 'Baking Sota' boots from Aerosoles and love them. Wouldn't have been the first place I looked, but they are super comfortable and have held up well. Affordable too. I also have a pair of Steve Maddens that are comfy and receive lots of compliments.

  8. I love a pair of Corso Como boots I bought 2 years ago. Not slouchy at all, nice leather and really do have an English riding boot look to them.

  9. I bought my favorite riding boots at Aldo and 3 years later, they're still going strong! I checked the website and while the ones I have aren't there anymore, they do have some fantastic options right now. They don't slouch and Aldo is great with teaching you how to properly use cleaner to make sure your shoes will last. Good luck!

  10. I've always wanted to try these that Janell looks so cool in...http://blog.houseoffifty.com/2011/11/okay-those-boots.html Finding a just right pair is a bit like finding a great t-shirt or pair of jeans - Good Luck & let us know if you find "the ones!"

  13. I have a pair of riding boots by Ralph Lauren bought through Zappos years ago. They are black but I think they made them in brown as well, and they weren't tight but held their own shape- no slouching at all. And they lasted me for a few years but sadly now need to be replaced. I also have a cheaper pair that are Lucky brand I think, bought from Macy's that have a zip up the side. THey look a little more casual with the zip but again hold their shape. I'm thinking of trying a riding boot by Cole Haan this year, but those are more of an investment than I'm used to.

  14. I have the Frye Jane boots and I adore them. They have a 2 1/4" heel which looks a bit dressier, but are still super comfy. I have big calves though so not sure if these wouldn't get slouchy on you. But they're worth a try.

  15. Anne Klein Costaro boots...they aren't slouchy at all and look super sharp. I get compliments on mine all the time!

  16. I've been looking for the perfect riding boots for years. I have twig ankles and long legs, so bagginess and height are both an issue... I feel your pain :) I love the Paige boots... but I don't know if I $400 love them. I just ordered Franco Sarto's Crane and Corso Como's Rena. The Lacoste Rosemont boots are fab, but wrong colors for me. Garnet Hill's Giuliana suede boots are also really pretty.

  17. Steve Madden Boots from Nordstrom don't slouch.

  18. Try Born boots. I have a similar problem with bagginess and slouching because of thing ankles/calves. Born work universally well for me and they are really well made and more affordable than other designer brands. I have never been able to get Frye boots to work for me. I have high arches so the pull on feature just doesn't work and they are always painful.

  20. I went thru this last year. Bought boots, returned them, bought boots returned them...... continuous cycle ..then one day I was in the L.L.Bean outlet store( not where I would typically even look at shoes!) but there on a shelf was my dream pair of boots- a saddle brown leather riding boot with the perfect amount of distressing....and the only pair left in the store was in MY SIZE! They were the perfect combo of style, color, shape and a GREAT price!
My point is.....you will find them where you least expect them to be.

  21. I bought my daughter the Frye Melissa Button Back Zip Boot. Got them in Oklahoma City Shoe Gallery and saved 30 percent just over $100. They are a beautiful boot and love how they are slim in the top.

  22. Madewell's Archive boot is something I've had my eye on forever

  23. Now for the cons. ergo baby carrier First of all, the ergonomics of this carrier are not great. It does not have a lumbar support, so in reality it feels like you are wearing a ergobaby canada backpack backwards. This leads to all the weight of the baby being carried through your shoulders and therefore the heavier your baby is, the more tired your shoulders will be. We do not recommend this baby carrier past 6 months of age. It is great in the first 6 months, while the baby is still quite light, but after that it becomes tiresome to wear for any extended ergo baby periods. Score 3/5

  24. Try the Franco Sarto Crane boots. I have a black pair and they are pretty stiff (in a good way). I feel like I'm constantly pulling up any boots that just slip on. http://www.zappos.com/franco-sarto-crane-brandy-leather

  28. someone may have said this already --- i have the paige's. they feel clunky to me this season. they've held up well through two seasons. they don't slouch. they're a bitch to get on and off. i definitely got my wear out of them, but i'm thinking something a little sleeker might stand the test of time better.
