House Projects

We bought a house that needed a lot of work. No tearing down walls or gutting kitchens or bathrooms, but simple things that we could do (mostly) ourselves to make it OURS.

It always seems like I have a running list of projects in my head that range from easy/inexpensive to overwhelming.

I decided to write out a list and break it out by budget on the chalkboard cabinets in our laundry room:

By writing out this list, I can see there is an end in sight to all the projects and money spending. Also, if after a big purchase (like our new sofa!) I want to concentrate on a less expensive project, I can just pick something from the small budget list and still keep the momentum going.

And it will feel really good to cross things off this list!

Do you guys ever feel overwhelmed by the list of projects (big and small) running through your head for your home?

Also, after writing this post I realized I haven't taken pictures of our rooms in a while, so I'm going to do that right now and will post soon. I'm sure you guys don't care if they aren't finished!

  1. I can definitely relate! We have a 150+ year old home in New Orleans and the list seems to just keep growing! We do the same - alternate $$ projects with things we can do ourselves. We just started re-bricking our sidewalk, it's free but a pain!! Your home is looking great btw! -Boo

  4. The hubs and I bought a foreclosure and it needs a lot of love. We still have two-tone 80s cabinets in the kitchen and avocado sinks and toilets in the bathrooms!  We're trying to save up for a kitchen remodel now, which means we're limiting ourselves to smaller and less costly updates in the meantime.

  9. We have a DIY'd chalkboard in our kitchen with a similar list, and it definitely keeps us from feeling overwhelmed!  I like your idea though to arrange by $$$ - keeps the budget in check then :)

  10. We're about to start tearing out our warehouse to start construction on our new store. I wonder if we have any chalkboards laying around in the back we could use to keep track of our progress, ha.
