Grown Up Art

I got my first "grown up" piece of professionally framed art back from the framer yesterday!

photo

I snapped this picture last night with my iPhone during the worst time of the day you could take a picture. I'm currently at the car dealership waiting for an oil change so I can't take a better picture, sorry!!

But I'm sure you will see it again. I'm planning on putting a skirted table underneath it and a lamp on the table. We need a lot more light in our family room.

When your budget allows, professional framing makes ALL the difference. There are so many great subtle details - the way the piece is mounted up on foam core board and you can see the natural raw edges. The edge of the champagne colored frame are charcoal gray! I can't tell you how happy this piece makes me :)

I'm still planning on a large gallery wall on the wall behind our sofa but I'm saving up for that. I definitely won't have professionally framed art on that wall... IKEA Ribba frames here I come.

  8. The art and framing are beautiful.  I love the colors.  Framing can be expensive, but the end result is so worth it.

  9. I love how your home is a combination of beautifully curated "heirloom"-esque pieces - things that someday you'd want to pass on to your children, such as this artwork - and trendy, less expensive items that really pull the space together...
Now if only you could redecorate my house! :)

  11. I am an art teacher and have an ever growing gallery wall in my family room.  I have a combo of personal work, student work friend work, etc.  I love Ribba frames, but get most of my frames for the wall by buying cheap art at Home Goods, Marshall's, etc. and then taking the existing work out.  It gives a more eclectic look for less.  Most pieces come with mats, but I'm able to cut mats at work, but you can always buy them when you need to

  12. 100% agree - the new piece looks beautiful!  Can I ask a random question too?  I noticed you guys have a tight back sofa in your family room, and I'm thinking of making the switch - is it comfortable enough for quality lounging?  My husband is a little leery... :)

  13. Hi Bryn!
you need to take the mirror off the mantal and use something else, a big vase maybe, or remove the blinds it bugs me everytime I see this room (the blinds and that mirror together don't work). just try it.
    you are lovely.

  16. The new frame looks great! I have to tell you though...This room drives me crazy! Every time I see the chaise and couch stacked side by side against that wall? It just doesn't work!  I know you said pulling it out won't work  (not sure why as it looks like there's room, but whatever). Maybe switch out the placement of the chair and chaise? or switch the TV stand to the other wall and put couch there and chaise in front of fireplace?  or maybe just take the chaise out all together? Sorry it's just such a nice space and cute pieces that are crying for the right arrangement.

  17. I totally agree, it drives me crazy!! We are getting a new sofa soon and this room will be getting somewhat of a makeover.  I cannot wait...

  18. There are some very comfortable tight back sofas out there but ours isn't the best for lounging. We're getting a new sofa soon :)

  19. I agree...nice to have a few "grownup" pieces that are professionally framed among the Ikea frames.  The frame is like jewelry to the outfit.  That piece is quite yummy!

  20. I haven't seen your living room in a while, but the updates look great! Love it!

  21. West Elm and Pottery Barn also have some great simple frames when more luscious frames aren't an option! Not as cheap as IKEA, but not bad either!
