Moutain Home Design Board & A Fave

I recently did a design board for an e-decorating client who lives in a gorgeous home in the North Carolina mountains. The home has such great "bones":

The client wanted to get rid of the red rugs and I agreed. I added some cool colors to go with the warm space:

LEAH

I told her a worn, vintage leather wing back would fabulous in her space.. just like the leather chair in this House Beautiful living room:

The image was scanned via Paula.. see the entire spread here. This spread is one of my all time favorites.. in fact the entire July/Aug 2011 issue of House Beautiful has become one of my all time favorites. It's perfect (including a spread from Nick Olsen.. love him!)

The client has taken the elements of my board and already made changes to her living room and it's looking great so far. She added this beautiful navy blue settee:

And the new entry!!

I can't wait to see the rest unfold...

  2. What a dream of a house to work on! I am in complete agreement with you that the space needs a worn-in leather chair.  And that tufted blue settee is an absolute dream! BTW, love your site!

  12. Another poster begging for the source on the shelving.  I have been looking for something similar for my family/great room.  Rustic wood or a mix of rustic wood and metal.

Stunning entry, Bryn!  Love the settee too.    I couldn't agree more about the latest issue of House Beautiful.  This issue is a keeper -- can't stop studying the pages...

  16. I considered becoming an interior designer when I first started college but ended up changing my major to marketing, but seeing your blog reminds me of why I was interested in the first place!

I love the color pallette you used and the way you eliminated those red rugs. The cool colors are fantastic!

  17. I'm the homeowner and the shelving was an item that we chose before bringing Bryn in to help us with the color scheme. We found this shelving at the Hickory Furniture Mart, an outlet in Hickory NC -- the store is Hickory Park Furniture. But there is a very similar shelving unit on wisteria.com

  19. Thanks everyone for the kind comments about our home. Having Bryn help us with the color scheme, artwork etc. was a great experience. She gave us a lot of ideas to help fine tune the general look my husband and I were going for. We're still looking for some key pieces (like the worn in leather chair) and having Bryn's advice  and design board will help us make much better buying decisions. With so many choices out there, having Bryn to bounce ideas off of kept us from feeling overwhelmed and gave us some direction to work toward.

Since we live in "furniture country" with lots of furniture and fabric outlets and I love a good deal, the final result won't be exactly what you see on Bryn's design board, but will very much have that vibe!  I must say,  if you are a design lover like me and generally feel confident in your taste, but would like someone on your team that can help you make those final decisions and feel good about them -- do a consultation with Bryn and become an e-client! She's fantastic. Since there's been a few questions about the furniture I'll answer them here. The shelving was an item that we chose before bringing Bryn in to help us with the color scheme. We found this shelving at the Hickory Furniture Mart, an outlet in Hickory NC -- the store within the outlet is Hickory Park Furniture. But there is a very similar shelving unit on wisteria.com. We have a small kitchen without many upper cabinets so I needed a unit in which to store some of our glassware and bakeware.  Turns out my bakeware fits in just perfect with the Blue scheme Bryn directed us toward. A happy accident! The settee also came from the Hickory Furniture Mart, but from a different store within the outlet: Vanguard Furniture. We also got another occasional chair here (not pictured) in a geometric pattern which will couple well with the lived in leather chair once we find it!The green demijohns on top of the shelves came from one of my favorite antique stores in Blowing Rock, NC -- Windwood Antiques.  I think there is a store in Charlotte as well. And the pillows on the settee came from Windwood as well. They matched perfectly! I'll be sharing more photos with Bryn as we get closer to completing our space. Thanks again for the kind comments and if you have any other questions about things please let me know! And thanks so much to Bryn for all her guidance!

Wow. That seems like a dreamy home to work with. I LOVE your design board. The fabrics are gorgeous. Bryn, I just love your style and it's high time I tell you that. So inspiring. I know you originally went to school for advertising . . . did you go to school for decorating before starting your business? Just curious as I get the nerve to follow my passion. Thanks, Bryn.

  23. Hi! I'm the homeowner. We've had the elm and metal side table for a while. It came from the Bernhardt outlet in Hickory NC. I believe it's still a line the company carries. Hope that helps!
