Easy Line Drawings

After the powder room was finished yesterday I couldn't stop thinking about artwork that would go in there. I had decided I wanted simple, pretty line drawings as to not compete with the mirror and grasscloth. I scoured Etsy but came up short.

Then I had the idea to just make my own! I could probably have tried to free hand some, but to be honest that takes time (for me at least).. time I do not have. So I took the short-cut route.

I found these beautiful images on Vintage Printable. (I love Vintage Printable.. all the images on their site are royalty free so you don't have to worry about copyright infringement. Phew!)

Aren't they beautiful?? I love how the prints include the root systems. That was my favorite part. (I actually printed these first to try them in the bathroom but the cream image was lost up against the tan grasscloth. I needed something white).

I had vellum laying around from our wedding, so I took the vellum and used it as tracing paper to trace out the image. Here is an action shot taken with my iPhone:

After I was finished, I put the vellum against a plain white piece of paper. You can't really tell the sketches are on vellum unless you look really close.

And the final product:

I love how they turned out! It looks like I spent a lot of time on them, but I didn't :)

I had these frames laying around and they look really cool up against the grasscloth.

The best part- this entire project cost me $0 because I had everything laying around!

  9. This is a great idea! I think I know what I'm doing in my empty hallway now...

BTW The Graphics Fairy is awesome too for free vintage printables and easier to use than Vintage Printable...lately I can't even navigate their site...

  12. What a great idea. I got some botanical prints recently at the Christie Antique show but they look too traditional now that I've tried them in our rooms. Perhaps something like this will work and I won't feel like they are a total loss...

Bryn these are brilliant. New twist on vintage and making it your own. I think they are gorgeous, and the grasscloth backdrop will be beautiful. I'm inspired to try something like that. :)

  24. I love it! I want to do grasscloth in our powder room when we are in our next house (hopefully next year) so it was fun to see a real life example! I love the art too - cool how the grass cloth shows through the glass of the frames...great ideas!

  25. Great idea...and potential Mother's Day gift. She'd love it.
What? Am I too old to still be making my mom handmade gifts for Mother's Day?
