Pink & Purple - Bringin' It Back

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this. When I was thinking about today's post, I wanted to share how much I've been loving purple lately. Well, truth is I have always loved purple, and I want to show you my bedroom from college. (I think I've posted this picture before but that was a while ago).

So a little back story - I lived in a house with my best friends three out of the four years of school and had SO much fun. It was also really fun being able to decorate however we wanted. I also knew this was the time do go ALL OUT girly because someday I'd most likely get married to my college sweetheart (and I did).

So here it is.. my college bedroom circa 2004. (And yes, Charlotte and I go way back!)

It was the very first time I had ever painted a room, and I tackled the two toned paint. Risky! Looking back at this room I cringe a little, but at the time I loved it. I do see a little of the current decorator in me though, like the minimalist approach to furniture and accessories.

Anyway, the point of this post is that - I still really love purple. A more updated purple though. I really like Martha's new color Kalamata Olive:

I have been thinking about this color in our dining room. I said to my husband the other day - "Matt, you're going to hate me. You know I want to do my office in a skin toned pink, but I've been thinking of doing the office in this." And then I showed him the swatch. He looked at it and said "That's okay, I don't mind". Ah! The best husband ever!!! He lets me run with my decorating ideas and I love him for it. I haven't completely made up my mind on the dining room yet, so we'll see.

ps - I've already brought in a little purple on this vintage foot stool:

  1. I just picked up the Kalamata Olive paint swatch myself. I'm teetering between that and "Griddle".

  3. I wish there was a way to post photos here because I did the same thing! Only the color I chose was "Flamingo Dream." It was a bold, bright pink color and I had all white furniture and fabrics. I loved it, but my boyfriend (now husband) said it was like sleeping in a, er, um.... (you get the idea).

  5. I love that stool! I am thinking of doing pops of purple in my living room now with a greige paint, do you think this will look okay? Just discovered your blog while I was trying to find rooms done in greige and found your post from last year when you painted your living room in Woodrow Wilson Putty. Can't wait to read more of your blog entries!

  6. Purple can be so dramatic and perfect for a dining room!

I love that fabric! Where did you find it?

  7. to be fair, that color will read as a manly, manly gray about as often as it reads as a moody, dramatic purple depending on light.

excited to see how it turns out!

  12. I painted my room pink in college for the same reason - it was my last chance to have a girly room before getting married.
