This past Saturday (9/29/12) marked our 5 year wedding anniversary. I cannot believe it's been 5 years already!
Typically, we're pretty low key when it comes to celebrating our anniversary, but since this was the big 5, we wanted to do something special. So we used up some hotel points and booked a quick trip to Asheville.
Before checking in, we stopped at one of our favorite restaurants in Ashevilla - Tupelo Honey Cafe. I was thinking about their biscuits for MONTHS.
They had this HUGE fireplace that was open on all four sides with chairs and sofas around it. It was so awesome just sitting in front of the fireplace with no where to go.
We actually lucked out and our neighbors and good friends of ours were in Asheville the same weekend! So on Saturday we hung out and drank some beers with them. Then it was off to our anniversary dinner at The Admiral.
I don't know WHAT I was doing in the picture above.. I was a little spirited ;) But the point is, the food was really great at The Admiral - I highly recommend it! (Although I ate wayyyyy too much and had a tummy ache after. My fault!)
The next day we went to the Biltmore. We've lived in Charlotte almost 3 years but had not visited the Biltmore yet, so we spent the day there.
First up was their Sunday brunch. OMG IT WAS AMAZING. We ate so much ;) Have you noticed we love to eat on vacations? At least we eat healthy the rest of the time..
Then we headed to the actual estate to do the interior tour. It was so great. They had many, many rooms open to tour (I think 35 or so!) and of course, I loved every one of them. I'm obsessed with old historic homes.
After touring the inside of the house, we had scheduled a horseback ride.
It was a beautiful and relaxing ride. We saw the Biltmore in the background (above) and also went through the deep woods. It was awesome! And it left me really wanting to add riding to my hobbies.
After the horseback riding we visited the Inn at Biltmore. Matt has the new iPhone and took this cool panoramic pic:
Then we went to Biltmore's free (yeah!) wine tasting and tasted a handful of wines.
The wines were pretty good and towards the end we were feeling pretty good, too! The people next to us offered to take our picture (lol).
And decided to order a little dessert to enjoy on the sofa.
I realize that was a LONG recap, but we had SUCH an amazing time I want to remember it forever. I couldn't have asked for a better anniversary and I know when we are old and gray we'll look back on it and think, man that was an AMAZING time in our lives.
Recently at Matt's brother's wedding, the maid of honor said something along these lines "You'll look back at your wedding day and realize that day you loved each other the least". And that is exactly how I feel about my husband and our marriage - just when I think it can't get any better, it does! Love you Matt!!! xoxo
Okay, enough cheesiness. Tomorrow I have some pictures to share with you from a recent project I just finished up!
Congratulations on your anniversary!! Everything looked beautiful :)

What beautiful wedding photos! I was just in Asheville this past July for the first time and it made me a little nostalgic seeing your post. Such a great town and the Biltmore was magnificent!
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm putting the Biltmore on my bucket list, I've got to get there someday, probably just with my hubby, no kids allowed!
ReplyDeleteI love Tupelo Honey! The Biltmore is breathtaking, every time I see a picture of it. It's so massive and beautiful. Happy Anniversary!

Congrats on 5 years! What an accomplishment! That headboard in your hotel room is so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 5 years! I love what you shared at the end of the post about your wedding day. So true! That's my kind of vacation. I live near Asheville, and have always wanted to see the inside of the Grand Bohemian. It looks like a spectacular place!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!! The next five (or 20) are going to fly by just as fast :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! What a fun recap- I feel the same way about Tupelo Honey's biscuits. Here's to another great 5!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is exactly what my husband and I do when we go to Asheville. Seriously. The Admiral. The Biltmore. Wine Tasting. Tupelo Honey. I love that town!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I just got married on Saturday, so we share the same anniversary! Love what you said at the end. I have no doubt that's true!
ReplyDeleteBryn - I had no idea you are so tall! The pic of you on the horse shows how long your legs are --- oh la la :) BTW - thanks so much for the tips on the Admiral. My in laws have a cabin in Asheville and we frequent it alot but have NO idea where to eat and whats good around there. lots of trial, with lots of error. must try this place. any other good recommendations??
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I went to Asheville to celebrate our first anniversary last year and also went to Tupelo Honey and Biltmore! Next time you go, you have to visit Minx...it's my favorite boutique there. I also love poking around the art galleries.
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm an Ashevillian (and was an archivist on the Estate for years). Let me know the next time you're planning a visit because while The Admiral is awesome, Tupelo Honey is meh and we have so many other great restaurants I can recommend (like Bouchon, right next door the aforementioned lovely Minx boutique!) Glad you enjoyed my sweet little town-happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I love the Biltmore House and Biltmore Forest area. My Mom lives nearby. Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteCongrats. Looks like you had a great day.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are so cute, Happy Anniversary!!!
