I always try to squeeze in house projects on the weekend, no matter how busy I am.
The weekend before last I painted the vanity in our bathroom the same light gray that is on the beadboard/trim in our bathroom. After letting the paint dry for a week, I hung the doors and hardware back on yesterday:
(Still need to find some good looking pulls)
I also cleaned out our closet. Our closet is not tiny but not huge either, and I like to make sure it's never over-flowing. I usually go through and get rid of clothes pretty often.
I don't own very many clothes. Here are my racks:
As a rule of thumb, I only keep things that I like to wear/feel good in. If I don't like how I feel in something.. I get rid of it!
I thought I had a pretty normal amount of clothes, but a girlfriend of mine once saw my closet and couldn't believe how little I had in it, ha!
Someday I will share more pictures.. first I think I am going to replace this rack of shoes with a Billy bookcase that I have sitting unopened in the garage. It will allow for more storage.
These are all the shoes I own, except for a basket of flats that are on the floor and my tennis shoes.
How about you guys, do you own a lot of clothes and shoes or are you a minimalist like me? I'm curious!

I have about the same amount of hanging clothes as you. Same amount of shoes too. I think I have the same brown boots on the floor too. :) But then I have a dresser that has my workout clothes, tshirts, pajamas, etc.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your clothing philosophy. I'd rather have less and have it all be things I really like and wear. Too many options makes it harder sometimes. Plus as I get older I spend more on clothes which necessitates fewer pieces. :)
I have a great girlfriend who probably has 1/3 of the clothes you have...she is a professional, only buys super nice things, and always looks so put together and amazing! Meanwhile I have a closet jam-packed with tons of mostly cheap clothes and I'm usually sloppy and/or have nothing to wear. Hmm....
ReplyDeleteThat is EXACTLY what I strive for... but the Target clothing section gets me every time :( I need to just plan to buy one really nice piece of clothing every quarter and that's it!
ReplyDeleteI'm a minimalist too, and I think it's sort of nice, you know? I try to constantly improve in that area, and I love your way of thinking, i.e., to try and have only things that you feel stunning in. What a inspiring goal!
ReplyDeleteI'm a clothes and shoes pack rat! I think the problem is I hardly change sizes so I just accumulate things over the years. I'm trying to slowly upgrade my wardrobe for more classic and higher quality pieces, but I'm not giving up my Target favorites anytime soon! Including the same Missioni pumps you have!
ReplyDeleteOh, I forgot to say that I recently switched from wooden hangers to those huggable ones that are very thin, and it really freed up a lot of space and made things feel roomier.
ReplyDeleteI am a minimalist. I also get rid of anything that I don't love, looks great and is comfortable. I'd rather have one perfect pair of (blank) than 5 okay ones. I also do a strict one in - one out when I get anything new.
ReplyDeleteClosets look so much nicer when you can see everything!! I love your shoe storage - will have to look into something like that.
I'd love to be able to refine my closet to small amount of investment pieces, but I get distracted by cheap thrills! It's a work in progress.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the bathroom cabinet color! What color is that??? It's perfect!
ReplyDeletei love that you are a minimalist. i want to be that way. i want to spend good money on a few pieces, cashmere sweater/turtleneck, good jeans, good shoes, and just live minimally. But instead I have a closet busting with things I dont wear, because I now work from home and prefer the company of PJs to getting dressed every day :/
ReplyDeleteI keep everything and it is so irrational!!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I clean my closet out all the time. No matter how much I own, I always go back to the same things so it seems pointless to keep a lot of extras around! I think you have a perfectly reasonable amount of clothes.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how many clothes you have, unifying the hanger situation is the best decision you will ever make, ladies! Bryn, don't you just love having everything neat in a row with your matching hangers? I'm partial to the thin velvet hangers (as they don't take up too much space) and just love walking into the closet and seeing that every morning. It's the little things, no? :)

I definitely have way less than you have! I just got rid of a ton of stuff that was just taking up real estate. I just got honest with myself:) Now I might have to be a little more creative but the stuff I do have fits and now I know what I actually need for fall...not just guessing while shopping!
ReplyDeleteI have no walk-in closet, just a tiny closet, and besides I don't have so much clothes they didn't fit on it. So I bought a little wardrobe, painted it white and now both of them keep my clothes, shoes, purses (some of them), linen, even my precious crystal candle holders (when they are "resting"). Above the closet I store the suitcases with blankets, pillows and and things that I use every now and then... I love your wooden hangers; my choice was black velvet hangers because they are so thin.
ReplyDeleteI'm a minimalist! I love clothes but weed things out constantly so that I really like what is there!
ReplyDeleteYou might be surprised, but I don't think I have many more clothes than you do! Now shoes are a different story...I use the Billy bookcases and have four of them smack full in my walk in closet with only two small hanging bars of clothing. PS. You just lit the fire under me to paint our nasty orange oak cabinets! Any tips?
ReplyDeleteBryn, where is your bathroom rug from? LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteOk i'm ashamed - i'm quite the hoarder! Having recently moved into my new home, i had thought my new wardrobe would provide more than enough space. But horrors of horrors, i had to get an additional chest of drawers to house my many (more than half never ever see the light!) tops. And most of u have hit the spot regarding cheap thrills.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you. I probably get rid of things too quickly, but I hate clutter and we have very little space... so it works. I am pretty sure my husband might have twice as many clothes as me but I don't mind. I don't care how many clothes I could have, I'll probably always wear the same "uniform" of jeans, tank, cardigan and flats.
ReplyDeletei don't really own much clothes compared to any normal girl. hahaha
ReplyDeleteWell..after many years of shopping...I have finally learned my style so I do not have as many clothes as I once did. And shoes....flats, boots, and sandals. Always neutrals.
