A little fact about me.. when I was a pre-teen I LOVED Jimi Hendrix. I had a huge Jimi Hendrix poster hanging in my room.. my dad raised me on really good music.
But that's not what this post is about. Yesterday I was out looking for client stuff and came across this purple abstract painting at Slate.
I decided to take it home to try it above the antique Matt just brought back from his grandparents.
It was way too big.
But at that point, I had fallen in love with it. So I HAD to find a place to put it!! I tried above the entry console, in the hallway, in the family room. I finally settled upon here:
I really like the colors with the rest of the colors in this room. And it ties in nicely with the very dark purple dining room.
This piece of art is the last thing I needed to buy right now, but sometimes things are just meant to be (and that's how you should decorate a home!) Plus.. this piece was less than $300! Great price for such a large (and real) painting.
I still need art for above the antique cabinet though.... :-/
And the reason I titled this post "Purple Haze"? Well, the painting looks like it could be named Purple Haze. But really, because this has been my favorite beer this summer:

That painting looks like it was made for your house! Definitely your style. Looks great.
ReplyDeleteHi Bryn. That is a great painting. Looking at the shot of it that also shows your front door, I think you should paint the inside of that door black as well!!
ReplyDeletegreat find! that's the sort of thing I am ALWAYS on the look-out, but rarely come across! lucky you!
ReplyDeleteLove the colors in that piece and I think it fits perfectly in that room. The living room is really coming along, all the pieces you are adding are making it a one of a kind, beautiful space!
ReplyDeleteLove it against the light wall balancing out the black french doors. A great piece!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the painting goes well with the room furnishings and color. Now I would love to have my room painted white and put a painting similar to that.
ReplyDeleteI like the painting but you're right where you had it over the cabinet was a little too big but when you put it on a wall, looks more fitted.
ReplyDeletePurple haze looks really good, too bad we dont have that here in Toronto! BOO! Have you been to Toronto before? You should totally come visit if you've never been!
Great find!! Your place is really coming together beautifully! Everything looks so fresh and clean and awesome!
ReplyDeleteI love how it is all coming together. I like seeing the process you are going through, it makes me relax that decorating isn't about instant gratification in most cases. Have you thought about painting the back of your front door also? I love the charcoal of the french doors and if the back of the front door matched, I think it would really pop.
ReplyDeleteI love that painting!!
ReplyDeleteWhen it's meant to me, you need to just accept it. :-) Last weekend, I found a huge painting (we're talking 4-feet across) at a consignment store. For $100. Love at first sight.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't even fit in the car with the frame. So, the frame found its way into a dumpster because the painting was definitely coming home with me.
OMG, we live 20 minutes from the Abita Brewery and Purple Haze is most year round favorite! In the Spring and Summer they do a seasonal Strawberry beer that we love.
ReplyDeleteCan I ask where you got the black and white pillows on the linen sofa? They are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLove your post today. I was pretty surprised to see that Abita Beer - it is made very near to my home town in Louisiana.
ReplyDeleteI love that painting Bryn! It is awesome!!!!! I love where you hung it too. I am a sucker for original art! That piece is killer! Somehow I can justify art even though there are so many other things I really need in my house, art just makes me feel good!! On another note, I want to thank you for the traffic I get from being on your blogroll! I need to take you out for lunch or send you flowers!! Thanx! :)
ReplyDeleteOf course you had to keep it......it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! My husband has been on a big I.P.A. kick this summer, I'll mention this beer to him!
ReplyDeleteHi, it's my first time posting! LOVE your talent, your blog AND the new painting! I don't know if you thought of it already, but that painting would look fabulous upside down as well! (if you try it and like it, please post a picture!) And I agree with the others who have suggested that you paint your front door the same as the french doors as well; it would all look sooooo good! Sincerely, Martene

I can see why you would want to find a spot in your home, it's beautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteWondering what your wall paint color is? Thanks! Great pic too! I've lived in my house two years now and it is so hard to find and then decide on art. Needless to say, I have a lot of plank walls
