Love it or Hate it?

I've been looking for a rug for our front entry and have wanted an antique turkish rug look. Well, I would LOVE a real antique turkish rug but they are very pricey (all the ones I've loved are around $800!) and Charlotte may or may not pee on it.

I came across this rug and I really love the colors and style:

And it's the perfect colors for the space:

But the picture of another angle makes me a bit hesitant. It has a great rich color in the picture above, but the picture below looks a bit softer.

It's $169 for a 3' 11" x 5' 7" which is in my budget.

What do yo think - love it or hate it? Should I order to see what it looks like in person? Does anyone have any good sources for inexpensive antique kilim/turkish rugs?

ps- I plan on a large west elm flax jute rug in the living area.

  1. I love it! I see what you mean about the other angle. If it is returnable I say go for it. If not...I would probaly go for it. Rugs can get so out of hand. I love the colors in this one.

  3. I'm really not crazy about it.  I'm sorry, just think you can find something much more awesome.  I actually just blogged about this last week http://baylorsays.blogspot.com/2011/11/these-things-i-will-consider.html I couldn't believe all the kilims (a HUGE one for $400) I found on my antique and consignment store run.  Seriously look and dig and you will find! Go everywhere and do not be deterred by the first price tag you see, keep going. :-)

  4. Love it!  I think it will be gorgeous with the chairs, the black doors, and the painting!  What a great price for such a beautiful rug.

  11. Oh wow I love it. I have such a hard time buying rugs because I'm incredibly picky, but that one is gorgeous.

  12. I think it is a pretty rug, I also bet you could find one at an auction or estate sale if you could hold out a little longer. You're right that the rug appears lighter in the second picture, it may be that the rug has a nap like velvet where one direction appears lighter than the other, this is why you are always supposed to use velvet up the roll. This appearance issue is always true for "oriental" rugs but this rug looks like a cut pile...so I don't know if its the case. If it does have a nap and you put it in your room, when you walk in your front door the rug would appear dark and rich but if you came in through your French doors it would look lighter. If you turned the rug around the light side would then be facing your front door, if that makes sense.

  13. Oooh, Love It! But you're right- it looks very different in the second picture..

  14. I'm not an expert, but I think most rugs have a different look depending on the side that you look at it from.  I remember taking some time to decide which way I wanted my rug for the dining room to face ... one side was a darker rich red, while the other seemed to have a bit more of an orange tinge to it.  Anyway, that may explain the different looks.  Again, I'm no decorating expert and others may tell me that what I'm saying is a rug myth :)

And, ironically, I did a post about rugs this morning.  Rugs must be in the air!

  21. It works so well with the colors of the room and your new painting! At that price, I would definitely give it a try!

  22. I'd go for it. Looks great.

  23. I would purchase it.  I think that it would look great!
Also, remember that each rug has a lighter end and a darker end, as you may know.
The photograph could have been taken at the lighter end, with the darker end being your favorite!

  24. Have you seen the kilim rugs at PBteen? They are fun and affordable. http://www.pbteen.com/products/travelers-kilim-rug/?pkey=crugs-view-all

  25. It's pretty, but I think you would have fun making it a mission to find a beautiful old one out there.  Just keep digging, as BaylorSays said.

  26. Are there any good furniture auctions in Charlotte?  We have one here in Richmond, VA and it's a fantastic way to get inexpensive antique persians.  I feel like the colors in the one you posted are a bit more difficult to come by though.

  28. I think it looks great in that room! I've heard good thing about Area Rugs Club. As for the color in the images, the rugs with pile look darker from one side because of the way light hits them. I think you should give it a try and return it if you don't like it.

  29. I bought a runner off Heritage Unlimited Rugs and am very happy with it!  http://heritageunlimited.com/  I heard about the site from another blogger who also bought from them and was satisfied with their purchase, either Little Green Notebook or My Happy Little Place or someone else, I'm sorry I can't remember!  Happy hunting, I love window shopping for rugs.

  31. This seller has a lot of Antique Turkish Kilims for reasonable prices with free shipping!
I bought one and love it - is is certainly not in perfect condition, but that's part of what makes it so charming and cozy :-)
    Good luck!

  32. I like it, but I think you'll be happier with an authentic older version.  I've been searching for one for my office, and while I'm tempted to save money I think I'll wait till I know I'll love it forever!

  33. I think the close up picture is probably closer to the real colors... but I personally like both. What's the return policy??

  34. I happen to love it, but I'm crazy about those colors.  Have you tried Lowe's?  We've been really happy with our (inexpensive) rugs there...The other nice thing is you can try it and take it back without hesitation...

  35. I've had good luck with esalerugs.com, however, I do like the one you've already selected.
