I have to admit, I was a bit shocked when I saw this month's issue of House Beautiful come in the mail. Shocked isn't the right idea... it was more like "oh shit!".
It took me a while to decide whether or not I wanted to bring it up or not.
See, back in July I picked one of these for a client of mine..
In September, I picked this fabric for throw pillows for the same room and even blogged about it:
Both of my selections [silver pouf + ikat fabric] were in no way original and have been around for years... but it didn't change the fact that I was a bit nervous when my Dec/Jan 2010 issue of House Beautiful came with the exact same fabric (in a different color) and pouf (in the same color). On the cover.
I just want to put it out there in the universe that this was purely coincidental and that I did not plagiarize! Okay, I feel better.

All it means is that you have good taste :) Don't worry!
ReplyDeleteno worries---completely coincidental unless you're clairvoyant. :)
ReplyDeletewhere is the pouf from??????
No, no, no! Your post should read: How Clever Am I?
ReplyDeleteRepeat after me, "It's okay to be talented." LOL xoxo
I love when the planets align like that and great ideas collide!
ReplyDeleteI think it means that someone at House Beautiful is following your work ... and liking what they see!
ReplyDeleteGirl! You are ahead of the curve! I love it. One more reason for your clients to hire you, huh? :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with one of the previous comments--I think they are spying on you at House Beautiful and maybe you're getting ready to get a job offer :)
ReplyDeleteYou friends are too kind! I was expecting negative comments about being unoriginal!
ReplyDeleteAnd I WISH re: House Beautiful. They are my favorite magazine out there right now ;)
Bryn, do you like Canadian House & Home? I think the December issue is to-die-for, and kind of reminds me of domino. xoxo
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! It will be fun to see the same ideas with a different color palette.
ReplyDeleteMaybe THEY plagiarized YOU! I mean, you DID publish yours first!!
ReplyDeleteIt just means you're ahead on the style-go you!
ReplyDeleteone of the things i love about house beautiful is that their designs are timeless ... much like your design style. timeless. doesn't fall into fads.
ReplyDeleteI was not thinking of you stealing anything at all. If anything it just shows how ahead of the curve you are. You rock!!!!
ReplyDeleteweren't those pillows supposed to go on MY sofa? lol When you come out with an idea first and THEN see it in a magazine, it isn't plagerizing, it's a compliment to your creativity and talent
ReplyDeletePure talent on your part! I recovered my kitchen chairs in the same red ikat fabric! Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt means you're incredibly talented with impeccable taste, darling!
ReplyDeleteMy first thought while reading this post was that perhaps someone is stealing ideas from you. After reading the comments I can see that many think the same. You might want to consider designing a copyright logo for your images...your work is too good not to take credit for. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI totally know that feeling. I wouldn't worry about it at all. I feel the same thing when I see similar jewelry designs.
ReplyDeleteBrynn - I saw this post and had to pass it along to you! That silver ottoman has appeared in other places too!
