Happy New Year......?

I hope everyone had a safe and happy New Year!

Yesterday wasn't so happy for us. Yesterday morning we woke up to Charlotte shaking very badly and not able to move very well. She didn't have a limp, but she couldn't stand, jump, etc.

I took her to the vet to find out she has Intervertebral Disk Disease. It's so sad seeing her in so much pain, but it could have been a lot worse.... the disease sometimes leads to paralysis.

We stayed in last night, ordered Chinese food and fed lots of pain meds to Charlotte to help the pain and swelling. We went to bed at 10 and missed midnight (my kind of New Years! I'm not fond of staying up late).

She's still in a lot of pain, but I hope she starts to feel better soon. We're not really sure how long the pain will last. The whole ordeal is a sad reminder that our little girl is getting old. Hopefully the rest of 2009 bodes a little better for us!

  7. I'm sorry to hear about Charlotte! My dog Abby had the same thing it would last for a few days and then go away for awhile. It seemed to come back every winter cause it was so cold (we live in the high desert of So. Cal) Hope she starts feeling better soon!

  10. Hi Bryn - give Charlotte hugs and lots of love, thank goodness she has you as her puppy mommy :) We just put our 13 year old lab down right before Christmas and I miss him so much. Hope 2009 holds only good things for you.

  12. I'm so sorry to hear that about Charlotte. It's so hard to watch our furbabies go through something that we're pretty much helpless to solve. I hope she gets better soon.

  16. We had this happen to our yorkie a few months ago. I woke up one morning to her shaking uncontrollably and she fell off our bed. She continued to do it for about an hour where she couldn't stand up or walk and then it went away. It hasn't happened since and I researched to try to figure out what it could have been, and hearing your story makes me believe it was the same thing your dog is going through. If you have anymore details you could throw my way it would be appreciated because I don't want it to happen again. I'm glad to hear your dog will recover quickly! Our two are like our children as well - and we would have opted for the surgery too. Hope she is back to her old self soon!
