Times Like These...

After the stock market crash yesterday and the nation in economic panic, I can't help but daydream about a simpler life. Sitting in a rocking chair on a wrap around porch during a rainstorm, watching lightening in the distance with a cup of hot chai tea, a warm wool blanket, the hubby at my side and Char at my feet.

Doesn't it just sound lovely? When daydream about this senerio, I daydream about this lovely house in the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia. I was playing around on the internet (one of the things I do best) and found this beauty!

See the rest of this amazing home here, which is equipped with an in-law suite in the basement, a sunroom, and a recording studio (???)

The amazing part is: This home, over 3000+ sq feet, is offered at $260,000. In my town, $260,000 will buy you a run down 1970s 1 bedroom condo, if you are lucky. And while we are still daydreaming, we'd offer $250,000, owners would accept in this type economy (considering they already moved out), I'd put a 20% down payment and do a 5.60% 15-year fixed with monthly payment of $1712.00

I'd also replace all flooring downstairs with this beautiful laminate:

($1.16 a square foot)

And obviously re-paint. Oh yeah - and fill the home with four cute little kids: Three boys and one girl.

..........sigh......... A girl can dream, right?

  1. This makes me want to move. We're in the same type of real estate market as you, as we live in a resort town. This house, which is massively bigger than our townhouse, would actually be a smaller mortgage for us... can I say yes, please?!

  2. That house is awesome! Our market is the same as yours. That price would barely get a decent condo! Excuse me while I pack........ ;)

  3. I live in So Cal so I can def relate to living in a crappy market. Foreclosure, anyone?

This house has quite a bit of potential and existing charm. My first order of business, though, would be to demo the kitchen! The cabinets are workable but the countertops, appliance and flooring make me want to gag!

haha I know what you mean! The flooring is horrible, I would replace with the laminate I posted. I think the countertops I could live with (although it's tiled, it's still granite), but the appliances need to go.

  5. Atlanta resident here - we do have major homes for lower prices. Whenever I watch HGTV I am amazed at the cost of different houses in each city cause they are ridiculously high compared to home.

but we would be glad to have ya!

  7. Hey Bryn- check out Serenbe (www.serenbe.com)- it's also just outside of Atlanta (actually near where I live) and is this adorable community where almost every house has a front porch and a big yard to look onto- it's precious! We are actually going to their farmer's market this weekend...

  12. I grew up in the town south of Duluth (Norcross) and the area is wonderful! I plan to move back to the 'burbs when we have children. But if you do think about moving to Atlanta, consider the city! My husband and I live in a 4 bedroom craftsmen style home within the city of Atlanta and didn't pay nearly what you would expect to pay to live in the city. The southern life is wonderful!

  13. I used to live in the south and you really can get a mansion there for what you would pay for a townhouse here...oh well! a girl can dream right?
