I'm pretty sure the old saying "The cobbler's children have no shoes" describes a lot of interior designers/decorators. It sure does for me! I've been "planning" to tile the upstairs bathrooms for close to a year.
That's why I love having events come up.. it helps kick my butt into gear!
This weekend I put together a list of all the things I want to get done with our house in the next two months:
I've always wanted to host a Halloween party, and I've decided this is the year! But of course, that brings on a list of things I'd like to get done before that.
Most importantly, the gallery wall above our sofa. It's been bare and sad for too long....
The two chrome chairs are being reupholstered and I should be getting them back this week. Also my new end tables should also be coming soon! Woohoo! Almost done with this room.......
As I've mentioned before, I'm going to buy two cheap IKEA jute rugs and layer another rug on top of them for this room. Cheap and easy, and I can always change it out for something else later. If it's good enough for House Beautiful, it's good enough for me ;)
We're hosting Thanksgiving this year, yay! But the DR needs some major help.
I need to refinish the top of the dining room table (the side Henry is on with the cover is damaged), I want to replace the chandelier, I don't love it. I also need to hang something on the wall, and if budget allows, I'd REALLY love to get some grown up head chairs.
I'm thinking these (NOT this fabric.. I want a solid oatmeal color) and the skirt all the way to the floor.
Now let's see if all this will actually happen ;)

My husband and I have a St. Patrick's Day party each year and I always end up in the same boat with a list of projects to complete before the party. And it's not like I don't know when the party will be and that it's fast approaching, but it never fails that it's mid-February and I'm finally like, "We have to paint the laundry room / add crown to the kitchen / refinish the hutch. Wonder what 2013's last-minute project will be...

If you DO replace the dining room chandelier, would you sell the old one? I really like it!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't change your DR chandelier - I love it. Definitely sell it if you do.
ReplyDeleteI love all your ideas and can't wait to see it come together. I love a good deadline to get things accomplished!
ReplyDeleteLove your to do list! Keep us updated with your projects!
ReplyDeleteBryn, The cobbler lives at my house too! I have a list so long, I'm thinking moving would be easier! Can't wait to see what you do! May be you will inspire me!
ReplyDeleteWhat I appreciate about your blog is it's realistic. So often I feel I have to plan months/years in time to achieve all the things I want done in my home. But I love how your place is coming together. Good work.
ReplyDeleteHenry is adorable in the dinning room picture! P.S I love your blog
ReplyDeleteLove seeing your progress! Also did you happen to see my post from last Monday? It's right up your alley :)
ReplyDeleteLove what you have planned. I couldn't do without lists too. :)
ReplyDeletegood luck!! you can do it!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see how all of these projects turn out! I have the same thing going on at my house....need to get some stuff done before we have people in town the 1st weekend of November.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be downer...but be very careful with the IKEA Jute rugs. I bought one last year and it was the dirtiest thing I have ever purchased. There was so much dirt in the weave. I vacuumed it over a dozen times on each side, and beat it outside, but there was still a layer of dirt between the rug and hardwoods that would appear. I gave up and now put it outside. Just make sure you keep the packaging in case you need to return it. I threw everything away so they would not let me return it. It was incredibly frustrating! :(
ReplyDeleteI Love the floor standing lamp in your LR! I have never seen anything like it. Have you blogged about it before?
