A new lamp

I have been planning on getting this lamp in the blue/green color from Pottery Barn for our family room:

But the other day while at Home Goods I found another lamp that I was drawn to. I picked it up and took it home to try it out.

It's not normally a lamp I like.. I'm not usually a fan of the rounded "ball" type lamps, but like I said I was drawn to this. The colors went really well with the space, and I simply just liked it.

What do you guys think? I like the color and height.. I am just a bit hung up on the shape still. But I love the pottery glaze on it.. I feel like it really adds "warmth" to the space. Plus it was $59 vs the $99 of the PB lamp. I think it's a keeper! Much better than the old one (that you can see here if you are curious).

I also added a couple frames to the living room. I took them to a client, but they didn't work. I tried them out in my space so I decided to buy them for myself. This job is dangerous like that!! But again, it's little things like pretty frames that make a space feel like home.

I have a confession - we've been married for almost four years and I've never had a wedding picture of us out! So this is the very first one. I love this picture - it was the moment they announced us husband and wife and we were just so excited. It makes me smile to think about it. In the other frame I want to put a little picture of Char but haven't gotten to that yet.

Speaking of Char, you dog lovers will appreciate this. She is such a sweet girl and always follows me wherever I go - which is why you will see her in a lot of my pictures! She's also VERY LAZY. In the series of pictures above you can see her right after she got on the couch, and then the next picture as she laid down and is yawning. And I snapped this as I finished taking pictures of the lamps:

Lazy girl! :)

And yes, we let her on the furniture. Don't judge.

  1. The lamp is a keeper, but I'm a bit biased. I purchased the same, or very similar pair a couple of weeks ago at our local Home Goods. They make me verrrry happy when I walk in the door and see them!

See?! I've been so pleased with them thus far.
    Happy day :)

  2. I prefer the HG lamp in your space. The one from Pottery Barn looks a little "beachy" to me.

  3. I love your pup! My dog also follows me around and can often be seen in yawning, turning and sleeping in the pictures I post of my house...

  5. I think it looks great! Every time I think I am going to buy a lamp somewhere (and saved up sometimes for it) I end up finding one at Homegoods that I love (good for the pocketbook right?). I saw this one last week at the one by my parent's house and also was loving the glaze and color. The height is nice too. I think she's a keeper. Your blog is one of my daily reads and I just wanted you to know I think its great =) Happy Easter! xoxo Shelli from a' la mode

  6. It looks taller than the PB option, which is one of the things that works so well in this corner, with the higher ceilings! I'd say it is a keeper, I personally love gourd lamps, it's interesting to hear likes/dislikes! Janell

Love the shape and color of the lamp! I say keep it. My dogs follow me around and get on the furniture too. No judgement from me!

  9. Good height for that space. Great color and looks pricey. Everything, then, that one wants in a lamp. Keep it.

  10. I think the lamp looks great in your space. I think the deeper color looks better than the more translucent colors in the Pottery barn one... and the price makes it even better. You're dog is so cute.. I let mine on the furniture too. Some mornings she's so lazy that she will stay in the bed for an extra 2 hours after I get up!!

  12. I would go with the pb one or keep looking. That one just doesn't seem to jive with the rest of the room.

  14. Love the lamp a LOT. It's really pretty and organic. I'd keep it even if you end up not using it in this space. I too never had any wedding photos out but then decided to frame one and ended up putting it in our master bathroom, on the counter. Since no one really uses our bath but us, it's not "out there" on show you know? It's in our private space and reminds me each morning of LOVE. It's nice.
There's a photo of it here

  15. That lamp totally works in your space! Everything about it. I would not love it on its own but it just plays off and pulls everything else together so well. You have a great eye.

Adorable doggy shots are always a treat. The just-married shot is lovely and those frames are cute. Thanks for sharing.

I like it a ton! The color is perfect with the ottoman. And I love the opaque, round quality of it because it creates a strong presence in the room against the straight and strong lines of the mirror and fireplace.

I love it! It looks great! I also love your other lamp on the table with your pictures. Can you please tell me where you found that one? Thank you!

  21. I love the lamp you chose. It looks great. $59 is a lot easier to fork over than $100.

I'm also a fan of the PB Eva lamp. I made my own knock-off for $18 using a jug I found a HomeGoods and a bottle lamp kit!
