The Master Diaries: Chapter 4

See Chapter 1, Chapter 2 & Chapter 3.

This chapter we're talking about pillows. Since I work two days a week at an interior design shop I didn't have to go far for pillows.

This Kevin O'Brien pillow sat upstairs in the design loft since I started working there last May. I knew it'd be PERFECT for my master bedroom:

It will sit on the settee at the end of our bed (especially since it's a REALLY nice pillow. I love Charlotte, but I don't trust her shedding fur and sharp nails near it).

I knew I wanted to throw another color into the mix, and that inspiration came from this Ann Gish pillow:

I love the color, but the pillow was a bit too formal (silky) for our space.

I took this ruffle teal pillow home on approval, and it was perfect. LOVE!

[ omg I'm so embarassed at our wrinkly pillows. please ignore ]

Yesterday I told you I was going to paint this dresser:

Well, when I brought home the teal ruffle pillow a light bulb went off and I decided to paint the dresser to match!!

I don't have the exact color yet (I'll probably color match it straight to the pillow), but it will be somewhat similar to this:

Still left to complete:

- get dresser painted
- settee upholstered
- art
- mirror above dresser
- accessories

  1. Loving this! I just started blogging for the sole purpose of chronicling the Master Bedroom redo and have that exact shade of teal hanging in the form of a sample panel from my window! Ha! Can't wait to check back and see where you go with this.

And there's no harm in painting that fabulous antique dresser...it's yours to do with as you please!!

The color you plan to paint your dress is absolutely, hands-down my favorite color on earth. Nice pick! And I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out as I have a sideboard that really needs a paint job.

  6. Love the ruffle and the teal. Deep, dark and mysterious, great choice! And I love your wrinkled pillows, they make me want to climb back in my own bed.

  10. I really love how you are showing us your bedroom chapter by chapter. It shows that it takes room to make a bedroom just right. I love the pillow you chose for the settee!!

Wow - I love how that deep teal color coordinates with everything else. I think your new dresser is gorgeous! Though I would paint the bed before I painted the dresser. As someone who has stripped and refinished a couple of heirloom oak pieces that well meaning family members had painted - the refinish is never as good as the original (you lose all patina etc) and it is so much work (or expense if you hire a pro) that it is rarely worth the effort. Just something to think about but I LOVE the direction you are going with the room!

  12. Although the bed isn't ideal, I am going to keep the current stain for now. I like the warmth that it adds. Gray is too cool and the settee's wood will be painted white so there won't be enough contrast. I think when the settee is in place it will look more intentional. And if it still looks bad, I can always paint (or get a new bed hehe)

  13. I think the cherry wood of the bed is throwing off the look in this room. You should totally paint the bed frame so it fits in with the rest of your furnishings. Besides the fact that the style doesn't seem to go, you could minimize this with a pale grey (to coordinate with the walls and other moody neutrals, i.e., teal and the sage in the table cloths) or even a distressed ivory finish. If you went with ivory or cream you could even work in that crewel fabric you had posted about in the past...
