For The House

I haven't done a "for the house" post in a while... here are some thing that are on the top of my mind for the house!

I've shared my love for these Jute rugs before.. I do plan on getting one for underneath the kitchen table. The price is great, it will warm up the space, and I won't feel horrible if I spill spaghetti on it.

This fabric is quite pricey, but I fell in love with it when I saw it on the back of Kelly's twitter page. It'd be perfect for my office, with the pink and army green. I think I may splurge and get a yard and make two pillows.

I've really wanted purple grasscloth in the dining room, but each swatch I order resembles Barney a bit too much. I think until I find the perfect one, I'll just use this paint. I'm sick of looking at the horrible color it is now!

There is a lot of blank floor space in my office and I feel like my desk needs to be grounded. I think this rug will do the trick nicely... (yes that means a rug over carpet. I'm okay with that).

  2. Very nice choices for the house :)

I love Schumacher prints but the ones I love are always the pricier ones. I agree, getting a few yards for pillows is a great way to get it into the space.

  3. I love this Ikea rug, I purchased it a ways back to lay in my husband's office. It coordinates beautifully with the dark walls and other patterns in the room...and at a great price! Looking forward to seeing how you use all these items!

  4. The Ikea rug is great and I love the paint color for the dining room. Will be a great placeholder for the grasscloth, and maybe you'll fall in love with it once it's on the walls!

  5. Hi Bryn,

Have you looked at the Tarnby jute rug at Ikea? Depending on what size you need for your kitchen, this might be a more economical way to go. The rug is awesome -- we have it in our kitchen under the table and 3 years later it still looks new. I've been very pleased.

What about putting regular grass cloth up in the dining room and painting it? Love that purple color -- would look amazing with the fabric you posted about.

  6. I've never seen a problem with rugs over carpet to really ground a space. Should I feel embarrassed that I just admitted that?

  7. I'm not sure if it's still available, but the Ralph Lauren Canyon Iris we used for our dining room's vaulted ceiling is sorta similar to the Martha Stewart Paint Kalamata Olive.

Rob & Dede's dining room at Kirkwood Manor

Canyon Iris is a bit more um, purply, but not even remotely Barney-like. It's a deceptive color in that it can look much more subdued during parts of the day when there's much more ambient light in the room. And then in the evening when we've got the chandelier turned on, the paint looks much richer.

  9. I have the jute rug in my living room and I love love it. Stuff has been spilled on it and I don't stress about it cuz of the price and it hides stains well. Also, no bad smell like some natural area rugs have!
