What do you guys think of dual colored kitchen cabinets? I personally love them. In fact, I'm wondering if we should do them in our new house*...
Here is the kitchen in all it's 90's glory-
I love the look but I am pretty sure we will just stick with all white. Specifically because I'm still loving this dark kitchen look, which is very similar to ours (drywall above the cabinets):
Even if we stay with all white, I thought I'd share all my dual toned cabinet inspiration pictures with you. Enjoy :)
*Inspection went well! Things are moving along seamlessly for us to close on May 14th :)

I love black and white in the kitchen!! It's very classy. Good luck with the closing!! :)
ReplyDeleteWow those gold fixtures - eek. Your new kitchen is so spacious - so many possibilities!
ReplyDeleteLove the last image! BTW, your kitchen reminds me of mine!
ReplyDeleteWhat a striking collection of kitchen with two tones of cabinetry...I love this look! How is the house purchasing process coming along? Good luck! Janell
ReplyDeleteI love the look! You should go for it!
ReplyDeleteI am liking the dual color. Layla over at The Lettered Cottage just did hers white on top and gray on the bottom. But...there is something so classic about a white kitchen. And white will look stunning against that dark paint.
ReplyDeletelove it as long as the uppers are the same color as the wall
ReplyDeleteI love two toned cabinets - we are actually planning on doing that in our kitchen! Congrats on the new house!
ReplyDeletei like keeping the main cabinets the same color and adding something different w/ the island! great inspirations! hope everything is moving forward w/ your house!
ReplyDeleteI love them... and I have them! They're green and white right now, but I plan on going black and white soon.
ReplyDeletelove the look!
ReplyDeletelove the idea
ReplyDeleteI love the idea, i think the red and black is very daring :) not sure if I could go for it but still looks amazing.
ReplyDeletea girlfriend of mine just did her kitchen two-toned. she is a rock star for doing it herself but i digress....unless it is the PERFECT color combo it is made of fail. seems like one of those "it's perfect or it's horrid-no middle line" scenarios (to me.)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a smooth inspection! I know that's a load of stress off your back!
ReplyDeleteMixing finishes can be great in the kitchen. I prefer to see it with the island, or a separate section of cabinetry that you can give a furniture look. I love your inspiration pics, especially your specific kitchen inspiration with the dark walls and white cabinets.
Congrats, yay you'll be in your new home so soon.
ReplyDeleteI like dual tone cabinets too - they look fresh, were going with all white cabinets, but you've peaked my interest even more with pics you've found
Hi Bryn! First, congrats on the house! And second, love your blog.. first I read each day. It looks like the fifth inspiration pic has the gray walls you love, with white cabinets and dark on the bottom. I bet you could still have two-toned cabinets based on that picture. Anyway, good luck with the house :)
ReplyDeleteI love the dual colored cabinet look. I just had a client do that in her kitchen based on the third kitchen inspiration picture you posted. I think it is fun to switch things up and break up the look of a mass of same colored cabinets!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your inspection passing! That's wonderful news. I'm sure you're getting excited to start transforming your house.
ReplyDeleteI love white kitchens, but I also love the dual toned look. I think it depends on how much space you have. With a small kitchen, you're definitely better off with one shade. But, I think you actually have an opportunity to add a second color on your island. Maybe a dark mocha.
Funny, I've actually been posting about kitchens all week on my blog. My husband and I are getting ready to remodel ours and we are putting in all new white cabinets. I even shared some of the same inspiration photos. We apparently have the same amazing taste for design!
Ooh, you just gave me inspiration! I've been trying to convince the Hubby to let me lighten up our dark-dark cherry kitchen, but leaving the bottoms dark and the tops light might just be the ticket. Thanks!
ReplyDelete*crossing fingers for a successful closing*
love your inspiration pics! I also love white or cream cabs and dual colored cabs. I can't wait to see what you will do with that wonderful space! Congrats on the house!
ReplyDeleteReplace the hardware and those light fixtures, throw some pain on the wall and you won't even recognize the place. Congratulations on a successful inspection!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection of images! Do it! I wish I had gone two tone (especially because my white bottom cabinets are always collecting dirty fingerprints and drippy food spills)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with closing - if you need insurance advice let me know! :)
ReplyDeleteHonestly dual cabinets is my biggest pet peeve at the moment. It's a regretable trend imo.
ReplyDeleteHi Bryn,
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you on your new house! I love the grey and white kitchen ideas. They look classic and beautiful. There is a little space on the end of the cabinet run on your top cabinets and a few little shelves would look great there to finish the space. Good Luck with closing and everything.
All the best,
Blair

hi bryn! this is a great collection of kitchen pictures. thanks for posting them!
ReplyDeletei think you should stick with your gut about the kitchen cabinets. while i too love dual colored cabinets, it all depends on the kitchen and if you want the cabinets to be the statement or the wall color. i think your new kitchen will look stunning in the dark grey paint ... it looks like you have lots of natural light!
i'm sure you've already thought of this too ... but the kitchen freak in me has to say this re: the fridge. if the funds are there for a new one, try to get one that goes inline with the width of the current cabinets. the current fridge sticks out so much past the cabinets it distracts from the clean line of the counter.
I personally love the two toned cabinets, but I do love your inspiration kitchen and think it will look great!
ReplyDeleteHi Bryn, I have been reading your blog for a few weeks & love it! Congrats on the new house. We painted our kitchen (an 80's masterpiece of oak)last year. The walls and upper cabinets are white, black counters and (trend alert, I know) aqua lower cabinets. I love it and think it works perfectly for us & our style. Whatever you feel in your gut is the way to go!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you did this post! I only had one or two of those pictures, and have been loving the dual colored cabinets ever since I saw the Ann Turner before and after pics. I think the dual tone is great!! I cant wait to see what you do.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the good inspection....sounds like great news! Love the first image....that gray is awesome and makes great contrast!! What fun this will be!
ReplyDeleteit's really unfortunate that you didn't credit any of the image sources for this post...not fair to the designers, photographers and/or magazine editors who worked to make this pictures a reality. this stuff doesn't just appear out of thin air for your consumption. it's wortht the time it takes to give proper credit.
ReplyDeleteso so...cabinets are so expensive. I would hate to tire of them
ReplyDeleteEverything is beautiful from every detail down to the furnitures. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am currently redoing my kitchen and these images nearly made me cry.....so perfect and gorgeous! Thanks for all YOUR hard work in collecting!
ReplyDeleteWe are going to have dual colored cabinets in our kitchen. White cabinets on the island and cherry elsewhere. In a couple of months I will have a new kitchen!!

ReplyDeleteThe photo with all the teal glass and countertops, what is the flooring in that room? i've been trying to identify it, it looks more like a linoleum, but has a great linen pattern to it. if anyone knows what it is, could you share?
