GIVEAWAY time! It's been a while since I've had one and it's definitely due time.
I was sent this amazing book called Speed Decorating by Jill Vegas.
I was a little hesitant about the title - I don't think decorating should be done with "speed" - it takes time to completely decorate your home.. in fact I never consider mine done. BUT when I opened this book I was very pleasantly surprised. There are tons of great tips and tricks that aren't necessarily "speedy".
Here are a couple of my favorite tips:
- Think of furniture arrangement in terms of groupings: a few pieces that relate to one another and create distinct spaces for activities like conversation, reading, or writing a letter. You can have multiple groupings in one room. This will create walkways and add functionality.
- (I'm a huge fan of this tip and always tell my clients this): If you have posters hanging on your walls, pull them down and replace with original art or family photos. Those Monet water lily posters give your space more of a college-dorm look than that of a grown-up room. For a great twist on framed photos, you can have a picture you love printed out in large format at your local copy center or search the internet for an online printing resource. (This is my favorite).
But let's be honest - we all know what our favorite thing about interior design books is - the pretty pictures! Here are some of my favorites I have scanned...
Love the unexpected blue striped chair:
OMG:
Pink wingbacks with nailhead, that chandelier, black fireplace. Perfect.
GENIUS. Have a tight slipcover made for your mattress and box spring in a fun print or pattern, especially if it shows!
Love this vignette...
So, you guessed it, I have a copy of Speed Decorating to give away to one of my readers!
To enter, simple comment to this post by this Thursday, 12 AM EST. The winner will be announced this Friday.
Good luck!

What great ideas and the settings are quite chic. The cover indeed belies the goodies in the book. As they say, don't judge a book by its cover but that's human nature isn't it?
