Ugh. I REALLY need some new go-to jeans. Right now, skinny/straight leg cut is my favorite and I have two pairs... both were purchased under $15. They are all stretched out and just yucky. I prefer this cut because I can tuck them into boots but they also look good with flats.
I love the look of these matchstick jeans from j.crew but they look pretty bad on me and my big butt:
I'm very pear shaped so please keep that in mind.
PLEASE recommend your favorites! I'd like to stay under $100 but if you recommend a pair that you would sell your first born for, then I could be flexible.
Thanks!!!

I have 2 pairs of skinny jeans, one from Old Navy and one from American Eagle. I love them both!
ReplyDeleteI just got the always skinny from gap. I really like them. I have a pretty good size butt in comparison to the rest of me as well!
ReplyDelete"The Diva" jeans from Old Navy are perfect. I am pear shaped too with a, um shapely bum, and they fit great.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried the ones from F21? They have some that are $12.50 and some for $9.50. They're surprisingly flattering (and I have a big bottom too!) and you can't beat the price! A bunch of style bloggers love them. Check them out on the Anthroholic blog...
ReplyDeleteI've heard Paige Premium Denim is pretty good :)
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving the new line at Lands End "Canvas." I just got these jeans and man, are they comfortable (ass minimizing, too).
ReplyDeleteHTH. xoxo

I am relatively pear shaped and I have a pair of skinny jeans that are from Banana Republic outlet that are "techincally" labeled as straight leg, but they definitely fit more like a skinny jean, with a very narrowly cut lower leg. I wear them with everything. I have pics in my blog, I think.
ReplyDeleteGap Real Straight. I just got a pair last week. They worked for my hips/booty, whereas the always skinny were too tight. Bonus: they cover your rear and don't make show your backside when you bend over.
ReplyDeleteI also have a pair of Kendall Skinnys from Alloy, which are great for tucking into boots but a little too much on the low rise for me. I like them a lot, I just only wear them with longer tops.
Haha I think we must be on the same wavelength or something! I have the same need for some new skinny jeans and I am pear shaped too so it is hard finding a good pair! I'll be paying attention to what people recommend as well!!!
ReplyDeleteI've got a big booty and I like AE's skinny jeans and Express Stella skinny jeans. I just purchased the Stella skinnies the other week and looove them!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I have never commented before but just feel I had to to let you know that I LOVE the Gap Always Skinny jeans. They are around $70. BUT get a size smaller than you normally wear because they stretch out like you would not believe. Or, I like the Diva skinny jeans at Old Navy. Hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteI'm a pear shape and I've just bought my first pair of skinnies: lee at kohls. I had the waist taken in, but otherwise I love them! Such comfy, stretchy denim!! I've worn them here: http://fell4fashion.blogspot.com/2009/11/thanksgiving-lookbook-my-1st-skinnies.html
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
I am also a pear-shape with large legs and butt and I own 2 pair of AE skinnies (not their super skinny fit). They both fit diferently, actually. One pair is a little looser which I like to wear with flats, the other pair is very tight, yet comfortable which looks better tucked in boots.
ReplyDeleteI have also tried on LOFT skinnies and liked the fit.
I have a pair of Levi's skinny jeans and love them. I haven't bought Levi's since highschool so I was a bit skeptical about them when I saw them at Macy's. I'm so happy I gave them a second chance. Happy searching!
ReplyDeletethe gap 1969 in always skinny. amazing amazing amazing!
ReplyDeletealso, you really can't go wrong with a premium label. you pay a little bit more, but they last FOREVER; don't stretch out; and wash like a dream. a sales girl can help your find the perfect pair for you.
I have a pair of Levi's skinny jeans that I love. I haven't bought Levi's since highschool so I was a bit skeptical when I saw them at Macy's. I'm so glad I gave them a second try, they fit so nice. Happy searching!
ReplyDeleteI have your same problem and have tried on SOOO many jeans.
ReplyDeleteI have two pairs of the J crew "matchstick" skinny jeans and I think it's the lack of stretch that makes them fit us pear-shaped girls so poorly.
I agree with Briar Oak to get the Gap Always Skinny a size down because they stretch out. I had to return them to go one size down (to a 28) and then that size has stretched out too! They are now loose enough that I really can't in good conscience recommend them.
I have some of the "The Diva" skinny jeans from Old Navy and I like them but they are so low rise that I have to wear a belt. No one wants to see my underwear peeking out!
So yes, I agree with Bridget: I ended up with a pair of Paige premium denim! And I paid less than the jeans from the Gap bc they sell them at TJ Maxx!
If you are willing to go scouting out high end denim, I would also recommend Habitual denim. They sell it at Nordstrom and now Piperlime and it is AWESOME. Cut curvy enough for my butt but then with a small waist! Plus it's a little higher rise so you don't have to worry about bending over!
I have a couple of pairs... one I actually found a Kohls! They are "elle" skinnies and work well for pear shapes (I too am a pear).
ReplyDeleteMy FAVORITE is a pair of "skinny crops" that I bought from Gap. They are on clearance for $17 online, they have a zipper on the side. I just ordered my size, but in tall so they ended up being ankle length (I'm 5'6").
Hope that helps! Let us know if you find some great one!
I second all the votes for Old Navy "Diva" Jeans-- they fit a boot-ay and come in nice dark washes that don't look cheap! :)
ReplyDeleteI got one pair at Banana Republic and the other pair at JCrew. I love the Banana ones, so I would try them see if they work for you. I'd only buy them during a coupon day too :)
ReplyDeletegood luck!
I'm pretty curvy in the butt/thighs, and the only skinny/straight jeans I've found that fit so far are the Modern Slim style from Ann Taylor Loft. I'm partial to the super dark, stretchy rinse wash. And, they come in 3 lenths!
ReplyDeleteAG brand Stevie fit. You can get them an Anthropologie. They are a bit pricey, but the best fitting skinny jean out there. Good with flats/boots/etc. I have the black and they are the absolute best pair of pants I own.
ReplyDeleteold navy divas!!! i'm on my second pair and cannot believe the fit for only $29.50! (i have a pair of the sweethearts, too, and they fit equally as well.)
ReplyDeleteI like Gap Always Skinny in the dark blue color. This kind has stretch in it, and is more true to size. I have it in other washes (distressed, medium blue) and they stretch out VERY fast. Believe them when they say that every pair stretches out a 1/2 size.
ReplyDeleteI am with MsAmanda - Gap Real Straight... not too skinny, perfect for tucking into jeans or with flats!
ReplyDeleteI love my Banana Republic jeans. They're almost always on sale, and you can find them easily for about $60. Their trouser style is beyond flattering, and I love their skinnies too.
ReplyDeleteI like the Gap Always Skinny, but they are SKINNY around the ankles so I mostly just wear them tucked into boots. They are so comfy and look really expensive- people always ask where they're from. I would recommend trying Gap's Always Skinny and their Real Straight and then picking whichever you like best!
ReplyDeleteP.S. If you buy them online, use promo code GAP20 to get 20% off and there's free shipping on orders over $50 right now! (I just had my bf order me the distressed skinny's for Christmas!) ;)
Hi Bryn- Love the new layout! Can't wait to see the website!
ReplyDeleteI, too, thought I would like the matchstick but was horribly disappointed in the dressing room. I have J.crew's bootcut right now, and though they aren't technically "skinny" they fit me pretty close to the skin and they are about as skinny as I need. And the bottom does not flair out like a typical bootcut. If you are in J.crew, try them on- you might be surprised! Oh, and I did NOT pay the $98 they are listed for now- I must have gotten them on a season end sale last year for a much better price.
I have the same pair from Banana that someone else recommended -- I think they are called "classic straight" and they might even be on sale right now. I'm pear shaped too, and I think these fit great, but are more flattering on me than the super-skinny cuts. I'll admit they don't look as great with boots (they aren't as tight at my knee) but they look perfect with flats -- not too trendy.
ReplyDeleteJ brand and AG skinnies are incredible. Over $100 but not by much, and I have hips and butt and they work WONDERS for me. Anthro has them!!
ReplyDeleteMy skinny jeans (first pair, recently purchased!) are from American Eagle and I LOVE them!
ReplyDeleteoooh! I have a great suggestion. We are about the same build, tall, pear shaped, and i JUST bought a great Straight Leg pair off the sale rack at Banana Republic for about $50. They fit perfect and are long enough to wear heels with! (important for us tall gals) Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI am huge supporter of NY&Co jeans because they have higher rises but are still stylish, and I LOVE their skinny jeans. Plus, you can't beat the price!!
ReplyDeleteI practically live in my Banana Republic skinny jeans... amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove my Levi's skinny jeans! Also, Madewell has skinnies, so may want to try there (if there's a store near you). They were on sale for $50 yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI've had the same issue, looking for skinny, but body is curvy. i bought 3 pairs of Xhilaration Skinny jeans from Target. They are rediculously comfortable and they don't stretch out at all which is unheard of for a skinny jean. I'm a mom who lives in yoga pants, so i need comfortable. I bought them a size bigger than what I normally wear since they are low cut, but since they don't stretch out, they are perfect and the best part is, they are $20!
ReplyDeleteI'm also pear-shaped and fond of AG brand that I got at Anthropologie. I have the stretch-cord skinny fit and I love it, but haven't tried jeans.
ReplyDeleteOld Navy Sweetheart skinny's. I'm short with a big hiny, they are perfect!
ReplyDeleteAlways Skinny from Gap!! They're around seventy bucks and will last forever!
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly recommend Cheap Monday jeans. They're good quality, very skinny, and even have a fairly high waist. They're $65 on Amazon right now, I believe. I, too, am quite pear shaped and these are my favorite skinnies right now!
ReplyDeleteMy mom just bought some at NY & Co. and she LOVES them. She swore she would never wear a skinny jean but they're really flattering.
ReplyDeleteI second all the votes for Old Navy "Diva" Jeans-- they fit a boot-ay and come in nice dark washes that don't look cheap! :)
