I have this pair of amazing equestrian boots. I bought them in college before the trend really took off. They are vintage, and are actual equestrian boots.
See, I'm always cold and I use a space heater at work (shhh don't tell). Well anyone who uses a space heater and wears vintage shoes knows that the glue they used for the soles back in the day MELTS. So my soles on my coveted boots have come off.
I need to get them fixed, but I noticed a questionable stain on the boots. And unfortunately, I think Charlotte is to blame.
So to get to my question.... is said stain removable from leather? Or are they goners? I wonder if I should even bother getting the sole fixed if the stain cannot be removed.... or maybe the shoe repair shop can get the stain out?
Your cobbler may be able to dye them.
ReplyDeleteMy bet is that a good shoe guy can fix them for you. But if they are fixed, will Charlotte want to remark her terriotory? Even if the stain is hidden, its never entirely gone, you know?
ReplyDeleteOn the style note - these will always be in fashion. In fact, they have been in fashion since before you were born. You can find photos of people wearing them in the 60s, 70s and 80s. So if they can be repaired and you love them - go for it.
I definitely think a good shoe repair place will be able to handle the stain and the soles. The key is to find a place that you know has done quality work in the past. Good luck!
ReplyDeletethere's a great online shoe company that is called nushoe that ariat uses for all of their sole replacement and repair services. they have great conditioning and polishing services so i think they would be the best bet for getting a stain out!
ReplyDeleteI think you should talk to a cobbler, and if he/she says the stain won't come out, I'd take them to a leather repair shop. I think they can usually replace the leather in that spot seamlessly. That sounds crazy, but I am pretty sure there are folks that specialize in that. If it's cheaper than a new pair of boots and you love the boots, you should do it!

ReplyDeletego to a coach store and buy their cleaner and conditioner. it's a 2 step process that will totally clean up and even out the stain. I used it to remove a horrible stain from a donut my, then toddler, left in my Coach leather diaper bag. Also used to remove mold from a girlfriend's shoes. Stuff is magical. Shoe Goo is all I've ever used to re-bond a sole. They are gorgeous and classic. Don't ever get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteDon't despair. A good saddle soap will take out the stain even if it was Charlotte, and then treat the leather with a really good treatment for saddles like neatsfoot oil. My sister's saddle treatments worked wonders on a chair we had that a cat really disliked. So if a shoe repair shop can't help, go to your local equestrian supply store.
