Closet Classic: Cropped Black Pants

If you remember this post, I've been working on building a "classic closet". I was also looking for the pair of perfect black pants. I wanted to share with you guys that I found them (thanks to your help!!)

They are.... GAP Ultra Skinny Pants! They are $54.95, but Gap always has sales (right now they have 25% off!) I was really surprised that I liked them so much because usually Gap fits me weird, but they fit my hourglass figure PERFECTLY.

The KEY is to order a size smaller than you normally would. I ordered a 2 (I'm normally a 4 or 6) and they are VERY tight on me when I first put them on (I considered returning them), but then they do stretch out perfectly.

So, if you're looking for a basic pair of black pants that aren't denim.. I recommend these! (bonus - they are so affordable.)

I'm still looking for THE perfect pair of jeans. My body type is so hard when it comes to jeans.. I'm your typical pear shape.  I'm looking for a pair just like this:

Skinny but not too skinny, high-waisted but not too high-waisted, dark but not too dark. I sound like Goldy Locks ;)

Any recommendations?

  1. I am very pear shaped and I am OBSESSED with Paige Skyline Skinny Jeans. They look just like that on my figure. You can order from Piperlime for free shipping and returns! http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=331920002&tid=plpl000000&kwid=1&ap=7&sem=true&pcrid=25250483370

  2. I like J Crew Matchstick jeans and also Lucky Sophia Cigarette. Both are skinny, but not too skinny.

  4. Have you tried Ann Taylor Loft?

  5. I'm in the same boat as you. I love jeans from the Loft, New York and Company (their bootcuts are amazing, I've never tried their skinnies), and surprisingly Forever 21 has some great, flattering skinnies too for super cheap. Now off to check out those black ones! :)

  6. Raleigh denim is my recommendation. I just went to their warehouse sale on Sunday and their jeans have the perfect waist height... not too low and not too high. If you're tall they come long and if you're short you can get them hemmed. According to their website you can buy them at Poole Shop in Charlotte. Good luck, as a petite person with athletic legs, I understand the difficulty in finding the perfect fitting pants/jeans!

  7. I've had great success with Madewell Skinny Skinny jeans. I like that they come in different lengths, including an ankle length. The Madewell wash is just perfect for me!

  8. Yes! I have a pair of these and love them. It does drive me a little batty that Gap's pants tend to stretch so much, making fit a little tricky to gauge when shopping, but you can't beat their prices and classic cuts.

  9. HI! As far as your jeans, I would try the brand Anlo. Of course, you'd have to make sure you're getting the cut you want but I have two pairs and one looks similar to your photo. I also feel they make their jeans a little higher waisted as a rule.
Best of luck! found my ANLO jeans in a boutique here in Nashville but not sure where they carry elsewhere. . .

  10. I have been a big fan of J Brand for a while now. (Really big fan). They all have stretch--so no jeans that are too big 2 hours after wearing--and no baggy knees (my pet peeve). I am also on the pear shaped side and they don't gap in the back (a problem I have a lot--so if I wear a fitted shirt, I don't HAVE to wear a belt). Also they always do a nice dark wash--and because they don't stretch, I can get a couple wears w/o washing. ALSO love that they have no tags, no bling, no "HEY look at me, I'm a designer jean". I love the skinny fit. I prefer the low rise (which isn't really "low". But they make a mid-rise as well. FYI: Style #'s that 811 are mid-rise skinny, and syle #'s that start w/ 910 are low-"er" rise skinnies. Only downside is that they are "pricier" at $169 to $209. I like to order from Bloomingdales/Nordstrom, so I can get free shipping and free returns. And I like to think about jeans on a cost/wear basis--and I can wear them 3-4 times per week. And if you aren't sold yet, then please observe that Kate Middleton wears them. That is the definition of classic. I mean, if Kate wears it--then it is definitely classic. Right????

  11. Hi! For THE pair of jeans I would recommend Citizen's Avedon line. The stay put stretch-feels like leggings-wears like jeans (stretchy but never stretches out) is a mystery to me! (I have the black pair so I can't vouch that other denims are the same stretchy material). I get a compliment on them every time I wear them. Also, the AG Stevie's have seemed to be very popular in my neck of the woods (Charleston). Good luck!

  12. I'm definitely a curvy girl and right now my favorite higher waisted jeans are these ones from Urban Outfitters

  13. I am pear shaped with athletic thighs and swear by two jeans: J Brand mid rise cigarette leg jeans and mother denim mid rise rascal jeans- which are amazing soft as t-shirts.

  14. I've had really good luck with Paige skinny jeans. They are really pricy, but I stalked them on ebay and you can usually find them for good prices there! (Like $30-50) They are high-waisted enough that I don't stress about bending over, but they don't look awkwardly high. The skinny style I have is tight enough but doesn't cross into legging territory. I also like J Brand for many of the same reasons...again stalk them on ebay :)

  15. For jeans, try Gap's real straight- not too skinny, not too low rise, and they are a little contoured at the back so you don't get that weird back of the butt gap.

  16. I am pear shaped, though much curvier than you, but I have had excellent luck with the LOFT Modern Fit Skinny Ankle jeans. They are skinny without being tight and the perfect rise. They also come in two lengths, 29" or 27.5".

  17. I was going to suggest Page as well, your picture looks exactly like my pair. Good luck!

  18. J.Crew matchstick jeans and also their toothpick if you want more fitted, but from the outlet, not the regular retail store. I don't like the retail ones at all (I think the denim is thinner and more like a jegging at the retail store, or at least was the last time I tried them on there). Love both of those, and they are reasonably priced as they are always on sale. (And I can never never find jeans.) Thanks for the tip - will have to try the Gap ones :)

  19. You're going to think I'm crazy, but try Old Navy's Rockstar cut in "rinse"! I'm partial to the mid-rise, but also bought low-rise. I've never been able to wear jeans from Old Navy (or Gap), but these are an awesome fluke. The fabric is very stretchy, but not too thin. And the cut is so great--I'm pear-ish, and almost never find anything that doesn't gape at the waist, but these are perfect.

The only thing is that they run very, very small, so try two sizes larger than you normally would. Moderate-rise is only carried online, but you can get a good idea from the low-rise version in store. Good luck!
