Whenever I'm working with a tight budget, I always look for vintage pieces to recover/paint, etc. Thank god for Craigslist and thrift stores!
Currently I'm "researching" (aka searing on Pinterest) for vintage chairs (or vintage looking) in living rooms.
If only I could find some like these! So cool.
Wing back chairs are the easiest kind to find, but not all are created equal. These (below) have a great shape. Maybe I should do a post about ugly vs. pretty wing backs....

YES!!! Please do a post about wing back chairs. I'm interested in finding a cheap one & having it recovered for a corner in my bedroom.
ReplyDeleteI think that's a great idea for a blog post! There are so many ugly wing backs out there! Love the ones you chose for this post!

I love the shape of the chair in the last image. I recently had two similar chairs recovered and it was fairly inexpensive since only the two cushions needed reupholstering and very little fabric was needed.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently scouring the internet for a midcentury style wingback (like this one http://www.etsy.com/listing/50396991/reserved-mid-century-wingback-tufted) . I found one six months ago and recovered it. It's awesome but now I need a match. Maybe craigslist lightning will strike twice.
ReplyDeleteDo you know what style the dining room chairs in the top photo are? My parents had those chairs when we were younger and I would love to know the proper name for them.
ReplyDeleteYes, please do a post about cute vs. ugly wingbacks. I am always jealous of people finding really cute things on Craigslist, ours is terrible and people totally overprice things.
ReplyDeleteI am on the hunt for 2 chairs as well. No luck on craigslist.... but your post has inspired me to be patient and keep hunting.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. Sounds like we are all looking for the right chair.. good luck!

I only buy vintage chairs for my design projects -- well 95% of the time. I love that they provide a bit of history, have more interesting shapes and their price point since I normally want to recover them in something funky and fun.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes..ugly vs pretty wing back chairs. I see them all the time in thrift stores.
ReplyDeleteYes! I'd be interested in a pretty vs ugly wingback post.
ReplyDeleteThe first pair in the first picture I found at an auction last month. I couldn't make it to the auction and the pair sold for $50, of course they needed to be reupholstered. I am still kicking myself.
ReplyDeleteHi Bryn, am so with you on this one! And, PLS. do a post on ugly vs. pretty wing backs - think we could all learn from that b/c they're a ton of wing backs on craigslist, tag sales, etc. BTW, love the Milo Baughman chairs in Sasha's home.
ReplyDeleteI got a set of the chairs in the first pic, "Milo Baughman" style at a Thrift store for $15! They have a really cool textured tan and coral zig zag fabric that I would keep if it wasn't worn, or stinky, or if my hubby liked it.haha. I just ordered linen to recover them and the cushions will have a welting. There's a couple expensive ones on ebay.
ReplyDeleteI love when they do not have queen Anne legs.....hard to find though.....
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of chairs like the one in the last picture that were my grandmothers. I've recovered them in a bold stripe and I'm in love!

Couldn't agree more - vintage chairs add so much personality! I actually found a Milo Baughman-style chair (like the ones in the first photo) on our Nashville Craigslist a while back and had it recovered in a vivid azalea color. Love it! (http://myinteriorlife.blogspot.com/2012/01/in-pink.html
