Attention Attention

I know you know Overstock sells knock offs of interior design staples. I wrote about their ghost chair knock off here, and their many other designer chair knock offs here. Well, they are at it again!

Check this out:

A marble topped tulip end table for $220. Amazing.

If you've been wanting one, I suggest snatching it up soon.. their knock offs sell out quickly.

The New Gray

I've been obsessing over this shade of gray lately. It's as if forest green had a baby with gunmetal gray.

I'm thinking it'd be perfect on a piece of furniture.

Happy Friday!

A "Collected" Design Board

Remember in this post I showed you the room that had a "collected" look? I recently designed a room with the same feeling in mind.

First I have to show you the befores. This house is so cool, with the best original dark molding.

This is the formal living room:

And this is the family room across from the formal living room, which is what I am helping with:

And here is the plan!

When I saw the pictures of their space, it had such a great eclectic yet traditional vibe and I ran with it. My client asked to help lighten the room, so I made sure to add a lot of light, bright pieces that are also durable (they have two children).

I really love this Fox Hollow fabric (and my client does too yay!)- it pulls in every color that they current have.

This fabric pattern is actually very old - it's part of Schumacher's J.H.T. & Co. Inc. collection and the design was adapted from an original J.H. Thorp document, founded in 1819.

Art Deco @ FOUND

I posted about these Art Deco style pieces over at our FOUND blog. Check it out here!

How To Sew a Skirted Table

First I'd like to preface by saying to tackle this project you must be somewhat familiar with a sewing machine and basic sewing skills. However, all you really need to know is how to sew in a straight line!

This project is fairly easy but time consuming. It may not be the best way to do it, but I searched all over the internet to find tutorials but found none. So I decided to just wing it and used common sense. Before I go into the details, it's pretty much just sewing 9 rectangles together (four sides, a top, and four corner pieces).

First, you need to figure out what to use as your table. I knew I wanted something large and tall just like this from Wisteria:

They sell the base for it, which looks like this:

I thought about purchasing it but it was too wide and way too expensive. $150 just for the base! I thought about making something myself, but I didn't want to go that route. So when my dad the engineer was here over Christmas, we took off to IKEA to find something that would work. After searching the entire store with measuring tape, we found this:

It was perfect! The small EXPEDIT for only $40. The best part - it has shelves for storage so we can tuck magazine and books in it.

Okay let's begin!

Loving Lately

I started the post about how to sew skirted tables, but it's a long one and I'm not quite finished. Sorry!! It will be up tomorrow :)

I haven't shared in a while some spaces that I'm loving, so here are some :)

This room reminds me of the soothing master from Lonny I recently shared. This is definitely the vibe I'd love to have in our master. Interesting but relaxing.

Perfect styling:

"Fussier" than I normally am attracted to, but it works so well:

You know I love a dark master! (I could never sleep with those mirrors though.. but they are pretty cool).

I really love how this room looks COLLECTED. Like each piece was purchased during a different time in their lives but they all work so well together.

Another dark master.. similar paint color to ours!

An oldie but a goodie from Domino.. one of my favorites. This would be a great baby girl nursery color palette for anyone looking for one!

The Master Diaries: Chapter 3

This chapter is called Paint & Skirted Tables.

My husband and I painted our master bedroom on Saturday and I have to say - it was so much easier than I expected! I was dreading it, but it took us just a couple hours. Usually it's just me painting but Matt helped me this time - I think he spoiled me.. it was so easy.

The "during" shots of my husband taking down the previous window hardware.

Looking at these pictures, I really cannot believe we waited this long to paint (well I can - it took me forever to come up with a plan). During the holidays, my husband and I would joke that we had "faux snow" along our ceilings - how festive. (if you're wondering what all that stuff is, it's dust from popcorn ceiling removal and sprayed paint from when they painted the ceilings).

Do you see Charlotte? She supervised napped while we worked.

After the room was painted, I was so inspired that I immediately went to my sewing machine and started to crank out our skirted tables. I was able to finish both this weekend after working long and hard at the machine and ironing board.

And here is the current state of the bedroom:

I LOVE the paint! What a difference it makes to have the room painted. It's hard to capture the true color, but it's more like the first picture. Gray with navy undertones. The paint color is "Gunmetal" by Benjamin Moore but if I could name it I would call it "Night Sky" because it reminds me so much of the color you see when you look up into the night sky. Perfect for a restful bedroom.

If you remember in Chapter 2, I shared with you the new color scheme:

I brought the spa green in with the skirted nightstand fabric. It's Thom Filicia for Kravet. It's to the trade, but Calico Corners also sells it.

It was really hard to finally decide on a fabric! I looked at a lot of options, but decided on this one because the colors were calming but the pattern was graphic and fun. I love that it's an animal print but subtle enough that it doesn't make our bedroom look like a cathouse.

I'm going to dedicate another post on how I made the skirted tables. It was tedious but easy (and yes I sewed them, no fabric glue involved!)

The paint and skirted tables are a big step in the right direction, but the room is far from finished. Here is what's to come:

I've named our bed "Big Red" and I wish we could replace it. I do like sleigh beds, I just wish our stain wasn't so red. Sometimes in design there are some pieces you have to work around, and this is one of them. However, once the upholstered settee is in place, it "hides" the bed really well and Big Red won't be so jarring in the room.

The lamps I purchased at Home Goods and the shape is a dead ringer for this pricey lamp from Circa. I originally purchased them for this room, but I now have something else in mind so I'll be painting them and moving them to the guest room (which is currently lamp-less).

One More Thing

I've had two very sweet and VERY awesome bloggers feature me this week. I'm so honored!!!

Click the headers to see the sweet posts! And if you don't read their blogs, add them to your roll asap.. they are AWESOME.

Thanks again gals!

A Wintery Tip

This post is short and sweet, but if you have dry, itchy, wintery skin like me, you'll thank me. Actually, you'll thank this product:

You know when you've towel dried but your skin is still wet? That's when you put this stuff on.. and the scent is so fresh and pretty. And it makes your skin feel like it's 90 degrees and humid outside!

And for my curly friends - I put it in my hair, too.

Guess what we're doing tomorrow? PAINTING OUR BEDROOM! It will be great and brutal at the same time. I'll definitely need a bath, some exfoliating (to get paint off) and some of this oil after the experience. Probably a stiff drink, too!

Have a great weekend!

A Soothing Master

I'm sure you've seen this master in the new Lonny, but it was a smaller picture and I think it deserves to be front and center.

So soothing, so pretty but cool too.

I love the reading lamps.

The FOUND Blog

I'd like to introduce the new FOUND blog!

If you are new around here, FOUND is a booth Amanda and I have in the new Slate Interiors here in Charlotte, NC.

This blog will be great for those of you who live locally - we'll be posting all about the items that are going into our booth. If you see something you love, you can also get a chance to snatch it up early!

For those who aren't local, we'd still love for you to become a fan. We are always willing to ship small goods so if you see something, just shoot us an email!

At the end of each post you'll see it's either posted by me or Amanda. But we'll both love to answer any questions you may have.

On this blog, the link above this post titled SHOP will now go directly to the FOUND blog.

Head over to the FOUND blog, we just posted new pictures of the booth and I just posted some new items I just found (hehe) that I'll be making over soon. Here's one of those items (loove it!)

I L-O-V-E mixing fabrics

Mixing fabrics is pretty much one of my favorite things to do. I just sent this mix over to an e-client.

Neutral, but not boring.

If you like any of the fabrics, shoot me an email and I can get it for you!

Making Bi-Folds Not So Ugly

Every bedroom in our home has full double doors on the closets.. except in our master (?). We are blessed with bi-folds.

Yes, bi-folds are pretty terrible. But luckily ours aren't so bad. There aren't slats and they aren't flat, so that makes me a satisfied girl.

Here they are:

[ so the digital camera lives it's life through rose colored glasses apparently... it always makes my pictures PINK. Our carpet is not pink. ]

Not too bad, right? All I need to do is slap on a fresh coat of paint and some awesome hardware.

Check out the current hardware (yikes)

[EWWWW the doors are so gross. PSA- clean your doors and moldings twice a year or they will look like this! Magic Erasers are perfect for this. ]

Here are some options I'm entertaining...

Not a pull, but an actual dummy knob. Very substantial but pricey, too ($45 each):

Now you see it, now you don't (via Restoration Hardware, $6.99 on sale):

Beautiful lines and heft (via Restoration Hardware, $8 on sale):

Cool shape, $9 each:

Another pricey dummy $42/each:

As much as I love the dummy's (hehe), I think they are too expensive. I think I'm leaning toward the third option (pull from RH). Great price.

What do you guys think?

Finishing A Dining Room

An e-decorating client of mine has some beautiful dining room furniture but the dining room just needed a little help with the "wow" factor.

Here is the board I created for her:

You know how the saying goes "it's all in the details"? Well - it's true! I really played with pattern here in this room. The pattern on the light fixture I chose mimics the pattern on the back of the chairs. The small perforations in the ceramic vases mimic the small dots (pointillism if you will) on the rug.

On a side note - the large piece of art is new from Ballard.. it reminds me of a "poor mans" version (knock off) of an Amanda Talley piece. At first it made me a little sad and mad, but then I got over it. Not everyone can afford a large piece of original art.. it really is a luxury.
