I've told you I recently sewed some more pillows for the Family Room. Well I think I can say the pillow situation is finally taken care of.
What I haven't mentioned (I think) is that we also replaced our TV stand. The old TV stand was a hand-me-down and I didn't love it. It was way too deep for the space.
This is an old picture of the space without any "finished" pillows and the old TV cabinet:
And here is the living room now, with finished pillows and the new TV dresser:
A better shot of all the pillows:
The bird pillow is a Lee Jofa fabric and was made for me by this Etsy seller. The pillow behind it was some fabric I picked up at a local shop; I made the pillow. The black and white pillows on the sofa is Schumacher Betwixt; I made the pillow. And the blue pillow is from West Elm from Allegra Hick's current collection... I love it!
It's nice to finally have some pillows with personality... before our pillows were purely functional and half of them didn't have covers.. ha!
The dresser I got at an auction for $60. It's huge and has tons of storage. Right now almost all of the drawers are empty.. I have a feeling they will come in hand whenever we have kids. I also like that it sort of makes the TV look smaller because of the huge size of the dresser... a large TV is my husband's one request in interior design, so how can I deny him of that?
I have gotten a lot of questions about my chaise lounge and it's location. A lot of people have said I should angle it, but that won't work for the space. I decided to go ahead and show you a video of our downstairs floor plan to help understand the furniture placement (and also in case you are curious!)
I would say this is the room we spend the most time in, aside from our bedroom, so it's nice that it's coming along. I still have the gallery wall to do above the sofa + chaise though.... and that will be a beast!

Maybe you could put the chaise angled in front of the patio doors? Leaving enough room as to not block them completely.
ReplyDeleteI love the dresser! That was a great find for $60!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the suggestion! We are pretty happy with where it is right now.. it works well for us.
ReplyDeletethat dresser is lovely, even lovelier for $60! I like the warmer tone of the wood in the room.
ReplyDeleteBryn, your new home is so clean, crisp, and comfortable looking! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI love the room. Could you tell me where you found your bamboo shades?
ReplyDeleteI got them from Overstock.com!
ReplyDeleteIt look lovely! Pillows are awesome! How have you been?
ReplyDeleteBryn! it's all making much more sense now. Boy does the weight of that old console feel so heavy now that its gone. So glad you have lighter wood and a more airy feeling to flow with the rest of your space. and the pillow is tying in the ottoman now. loved watching your vision complete itself. great job - really liking your space now!
ReplyDeleteBryn,
ReplyDeleteI love the way your family room is shaping up! Could you tell me where you got the small round table that sits between your couch and chaise? I've been looking for something similar for my bedroom. Thanks!
The room looks great, and I love your new TV stand! I have a question: since it doesn't have any glass in front, do you store your cable box off to the side of the television? How about a dvd player? I have a similar piece and would love to use it as a TV stand, but I'm concerned about how all the tech stuff will look if it's not store inside. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteBryn,
ReplyDeleteIt's exciting to see the room (and your vision) evolve. I am so impressed with your ability to "take your time" with the decor -- so much better than trying to do it all at once. I can't wait to see what will come next!
Best,

looks great but the chaise must move. too much furniture lined up. i would just push it off the wall. hate angles so don't angle! good call on that. just have it come off the wall a little more but don't center as that will impede your flow. just enough off the wall so it isn't lined up with the sofa, maybe 12" or so.
ReplyDeleteWhat if you swapped the chair next to the fireplace and angled the chaise there. Then placed the leather chair on an angle where the chaise currently is. Just a thought. I saw your comment that you are happy with the layout but quite honestly it doesn't work the way you currently have it.
ReplyDeleteApart from my little constructive criticism, it's a beautiful room and the updates are fab!
Love the new dresser--what a huge difference it makes to have something not so deep and up on LEGS. Also, your kitchen is hardly a mess. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI think you have done some great things with your home. The new pillows look beautiful! How nice are you to do a video tour! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love your family room. It's comfortable but still stylish. And that dresser was a steal!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the video! I have wondered about that lay out. You should do that upstairs too! I also really love the pillow with the birds. I think it adds so much character and it is so unique. And of course my favorite feature is Char, can't WAIT to see her next year!! I wonder if she will remember me?
ReplyDeleteI am a daily reader and have been following the room progress. This is by far one of my favorite rooms in the blog world! You have a great eye and I can totally appreciate your taste. Love all the details and the pillows are perfect.

I was wondering where you got your ottoman I've been searching for a non-brown/beige one forever now. The living room looks great!
ReplyDeleteYou sound adorable! Thanks for the downstairs tour!
ReplyDeleteI like the pillows and LOVE the TV stand. I can't believe it was only $60!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with your TV dresser.
ReplyDeleteCould you share with me where you got the ottoman? It is beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteThe room looks so vibrant now. That chaise looks so comfy, that would definitely be my tv watching spot. Have you guys ever tried it on the other side of the couch, so that it wouldn't be blocking the entry to the room as much. But I know for tv watching, function is key (it's not all about looks!), so whatever works for you is what works for you!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great room. I agree that the chaise out from the wall would be perfect! Maybe where the chair and ottoman are? And chair and ottoman by french doors?
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful family room! My favorite elements are your gorgeous cow hide rug and the accordion side table!

Love the TV dresser! You've done such a great job creating a lovely new home. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Bryn,
ReplyDeleteCute video! Your house is beautiful and has a great layout. I know your husband loves the chaise, but what if you switched the chaise with the chair and ottoman? Then maybe you could angle the chair and ottoman into the room. I love your new tv chest! It's awesome!
Love the new dresser and the new pillows. You've done a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteTake care,

Just an idea for your chaise ... you could switch it's spot with the big sofa, so the sofa is the first thing in the room. With the chaise in the corner next to the window you could angle it toward the TV.
ReplyDeleteYour house looks great.
Looks amazing. The slim, long console works so great now for the tv and really fits the room--the lighter color works perfectly too!
