Even though Halloween has yet to pass, I'm kicking it in high gear to "finish" our dining room. I've already started painting - next up is a new light fixture and window treatments.
I've posted this image before, but here is our dining room:
It's a very traditional space (with the detailed moldings), so I want to keep the design somewhat traditional, but still fun. I've pulled together a very simple design board to give you a sneak peek into my plans for the room.
[ fabric is from Schumacher, chandelier is from Robert Abbey, console is from Overstock ]
I've decided not to reupholster the chairs before the Holidays. I haven't decided which fabric to upholster them in, so I don't want to do it until I am absolutely sure. I'm hoping a good steam clean will make them look new(er).
I plan to create faux roman shades because: it will save money on yardage (that fabric is EXPENSIVE!!) and because the room is very private so the shades will be purely decorative. Something similar to Darby's faux roman, but inside mount. How am I going to do this? I have no idea. I think I'll save that project for when my mother in law gets here! :)
Considering the holidays will be here before we know it, I'll be sharing an "after" fairly soon!
Speaking of dining rooms... I love table Eddie did at a recent event in Philly:

i love that fabric and the view seems really pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post about you on plush palate today, you are so talented!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that fabric and your board is one of my favorites I've seen yet. Traditional with a twist, without being too modern.
ReplyDeleteBryn, I love it! Can I shadow you for a day?!:)
ReplyDeleteBryn! I love your ideas! And, I am a huge fan of those chairs! I like them the way they are! : )
ReplyDeleteI am sooooo in love with your dining chairs- adore them! I also love your design board- that Schumacher fabric is one of my favourites and I think it would add so much to your room. It's going to certainly be a gorgeous dining room when you are finished with it.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the finished product! The board is great!
ReplyDeleteI too love those chairs and their great legs. We are also in the process of finishing our dining room up, especially because we are hosting Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeletelove what you have chosen! It will look great!
ReplyDeletePS- I just posted a moodboard on my blog and would love to hear your thoughts:)
ReplyDeleteThat fabric is classic but kind of modern because of the colors. Will be wonderful to see how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteWhat great ideas! I am loving the color....and that fabric. It will look so fab when it all comes together!
ReplyDeleteI love your dining table! I can't wait to see it all come together!
ReplyDeleteThe fabric is pretty! Looking forward to seeing what you put together. Sometimes I hate deciding on a specific fabric for re-upholstery because then you're stuck with it for awhile! :) Good luck.

i loveeeee the room already! the ceilings have so much character! are you planning on making the roman shades out of the fabric you've posted? I love the vibrant colors!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great room to work with, love the bases on the chairs! Janell
ReplyDeleteI have that same console from overstock! :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it. The chandelier will be perfect (swooning over your ceiling, btw).
ReplyDeleteI made faux roman shades for our kitchen (pics on my blog) using mini-blinds (original DIY by Jenny at Little Green Notebook). The blind hardware allowed us to mount it inside the window - basically a bracket that is a little cube with the front and side (toward each other) open. The blinds just pop in, and the "shade" is glued to the top of the hardware and hides it. Maybe you could use wood and find similar brackets? Ours actually raise and lower, but it's kind of a pain.
Great room! If you want to do the shade inside mount just use the same directions as Darby but you can use a tension rod to keep them inside or just use a board and screw the board to the top of the window. Hope that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the room finished!
Please - I have been looking for a great purple. That wall color is it. Share the brand/color name, pretty please?! Thanks in advance for helping a girl out.
ReplyDeleteThat light fixture in your design board makes me drool!
ReplyDeleteLove the design board for your dining room! I've been looking at using the same fabric for my dining room. Any suggestions on where to get the price for it (not being a professional designer)?
ReplyDeleteI would echo the comments about using the little green notebooks tutorial on roman shades. the newlywed diaries did a tutorial as well. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS fabric. Wow. These chairs rock hard, as well.
ReplyDeleteYes, faux roman shades, perfect compromise for expensive fabric. I wish we could do that but our windows have NO privacy so we're paying out of our noses for real roman shades. Oh well, better than our cat-destroyed plastic blinds!
