And speaking of contrast, I tried a cowhide in our living room yesterday. I had originally bought it for my office, but it didn't work in there and wondered what it'd look like in here. I actually really like the organic shape, but it's wayy too dark for the space.
I think I may exchange it for one with more variation. (& for those curious, there will be an ottoman on top of it)
(ps- do you like how ADD I am?? I was in the middle of cleaning - see vacuum cords - and decided to try out the rug.)

when inspiration strikes you have to go with it!
ReplyDeleteI love black in interiors, it really grounds a room. These inspiration rooms are all just gorgeous!
I like the cowhide in the room, but you're right it may be a tad dark for the room. Maybe more white in the rug? May more of a light brown for spots. Have you checked out Sunland Home Decor? We just ordered a cowhide for our nursery and found this website to have a great reputation, great variations, and great prices. They have a beeeautiful tricolor cowhide.
ReplyDeleteThat dining room is incredible! I love all of these contrasting photos!
ReplyDeleteso gorgeous! contrast always creates the most incredible rooms
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know how you clean a cowhide rug. I've been putting off getting one because I'm afraid it will get dirty.
ReplyDeleteI am in <3 with first and third rooms!!

Completely understand the ADD...seriously do redecorating all the time when I'm cleaning. Dusting a shelf, already have the stuff moved...why not change it?
ReplyDeleteI love the photo with the black armoire! It was awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't worry - I think we are all a little ADD.
Definitely too dark but I love the idea of a cowhide. Maybe layered with a lighter rug. Your living room is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteAll these pictures are amazing but that first one is perfection. LOVE.
I also have been thinking of adding a cowhide rug somewhere, but have been too afraid to pull the plug thus far. Also I am just as ADD which is typically why at times it takes me a whole day to complete certain tasks in our house :)
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan contrast and I love charcoal walls. I already have my son's nersury designed in my head (I just need the baby). My husband is a die hard Broncos fan and insists on a themed room, but they can be so tacky. So I envision navy walls, crisp white furniture, and pops of orange. I see it more like a hip sports loungs than a themed nursery. Maybe I should just move forward with the room. "if you build it they come."
ReplyDeleteThis reminds of a trick my Color for Interiors instructor told me once...take a photo of a room in progress and make it black and white. If there isn't enough contrast on the photo, that means you need to bump up your color selections for the room...add darker wood tones, black lamp shades, a zebra print for examples. I've tried it and it works!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see it all come together! xo
ReplyDeleteI actually like the dark rug. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the dark walls in rooms - I wish I had a room where I felt I had enough natural light coming through to make it work without shrinking down the room. Great photos - and yes I agree that a cowhide with more variation will definitely work better in that space - love seeing each step you go through!
ReplyDeleteI am smiling right now about the fact that you are a fellow ADDer..
ReplyDeleteSo you linked to my blog huh...thanks..i'll give you a buddy pass anyday!
I like the idea of more variation in the rug as well - and the cowhide is totally "Texas" so you must keep it!

I don't know if you tried this configuration and it didn't work for you, but how about putting the chaise in the corner with the two windows so it faces the sofa at an angle. You wouldn't be able to watch tv from it but I think it would balance the room more with the light dark aspect.
ReplyDeleteI emailed you some pics...i dont know if they are in the spam box or what. but just letting you know in case.
ReplyDeleteGirl....they invented the tern ADD for me!!!! I am always all over the place especially with design. Love the contrast of black/white and camel. So classic.
ReplyDeleteI love love love black in a room. But having cntrast like this with light and dark elements has me drooling. I love all these rooms! I would love to hear more about how to pull off such contrast in a room. I want to include black (and have an entirely black painted room) but would love to see how to make a room still feel light.
