So what did I think? The actual show was disappointing (and described perfectly here), but I am still so glad I went so I could experience Design Blogger Convention of the Decade. Yes, I just made that up, but seriously, it was so amazing to have so many talented designers and bloggers all in one room. I was able to meet some of my very favorites and also some new bloggers that I'm sure will become my favorites.
I have to shout to some amazing bloggers who made my trip so memorable. Definitely Traci Zeller, who was my partner in crime.. I'm so thankful that she kicked my butt into gear to go! If you don't read her blog, you must - she has impeccable style that reminds me of Sarah Richardson. My two other partners in crime where Kirsten from 6th Street Design and Jenny from Little Green Notebook. I'm sooo glad I got to meet and hang out with these amazing women, I felt like we were fast friends. And of course Jamie from I Suwanee and Nick Olsen, I adore those two. I think they need a TV show together, seriously.
And a big shout out to The Nest for putting together a great after party, where I got to meet even more of my favorite girls!
I brought my nice camera and had planned on taking TONS of great pictures. Welll... I did take some but none of them came out (bad saturation). But many others took pictures so as they start coming in, I'll definitely share with you. I do have this one for you, taken with my iPhone:
I'm not sure when the show will air, but I was in the front row on the side, so I'm thinking there may be a glimpse of me... ack!
Overall it was a GREAT trip!
EDIT- As expected, more pictures are trickling in.
Here you can see me in the front row on the side with the bright lime green scarf and long curly hair. And my mom would surely yell at me to sit up. But in my defense, this was after the show stopped taping.

You can see me again (and Kirsten next to me!).. I think I was getting ready to take the pictures I posted above.

I'm kind of shocked by what I'm reading this morning on the other blogs. Was there really NO on camera acknowledgment of the huge number of bloggers who were in the audience? Perhaps others have more fun money than I, but I would cry if I bought last minute plane tickets and hotel rooms and attended the show that has been described elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame Nate...he probably had no idea that we were only given a week's notice. I actually feel kind of sorry for him because his staff didn't organize the show better.
Jeannine - yup you read right. It was a financial sacrifice to go, but I still consider the trip worth while. I was able to meet many great women, network with the Nest and even the producers at the Nate Berkus show, and see some of my favorite reality TV personalities in person. It was an all around good trip. But yes, the producers at the show really messed up big time.
ReplyDeleteOh man I wish I could go it looked like a blast!!!
ReplyDeleteLuvs!
Bryn, the link in your second paragraph ("and described perfectly HERE") just links to a picture. Can you double-check it?
ReplyDeleteOh no! I struggled so much about flying to NYC for this event. I'm sorry it wasn't everything that everyone expected. At least you got to meet fabulous people.
ReplyDeleteHey, Thanks for the link. I am happy that others are backing me up on this one. When I was reading the twitter feed yesterday, I thought i was the only one who was really disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI think the rest of the festivities this week made up for it, but Nate and his team really, really screwed up.
Im sorry we didnt meet!
I'm so glad you had a good time at the after party. It was quite a whirlwind trying to get it all planned on such short notice, but it was great getting to co-host it with The Nest. Happy you were able to make it before your flight back home.
ReplyDeleteBryn- It was lovely meeting you yesterday! Glad you still felt the trip was worth it - I definitely enjoyed getting to meet so many bloggers face to face!
ReplyDeleteI have been meaning to catch an episode of his show but I am rarely home that early in the afternoon. Is it worth the DVR space? If you find out when that episode will air please share.
ReplyDeleteSorry the show was a bit of a bust, but those of us who didn't get to go are still very, very jealous. :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice you got to meet all the fabulous design gals who were there. :)
Glad you had fun meeting all those wonderful people! I would have loved to be in your shoes {or any of the 100 bloggers for that matter!}
ReplyDeleteThat is disappointing about the show...I have noticed of the episodes I have been watching that things are totally all smoothed out yet. But still a fun opportunity!
ReplyDeleteIt must have been so much fun to meet people you have been blogging with...and you all looked great!!
ReplyDeletei have pics of you too from the show...
ReplyDeleteThat's so strange! I was sure that the entire show would be about bloggers!! Well, I guess the late notice should have been a sign that it wasn't all that organized :(.
ReplyDeleteWhen will the show air - do you know? I'm taping all of them...
ReplyDeleteYou are your fellow bloggers all look WONDERFUL! What a great experience!!
Bryn- So nice meeting you after the show although briefly! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOh man! I can't believe there was no acknowledgment of all the design bloggers *invited* onto the show! besides the huge missed opportunity (the Nate show IS so new) what a FUN trip it must have been to meet everyone! ;) I would have loved to been there -hope to go yo a taping sometime!
ReplyDeleteSo sad the show wasn't great, but so happy you got to meet so many awesome bloggers!!
