I'd like to share one of my favorite things with you. It's not a huge secret or anything, but may help those of you who are looking for one.
And let me tell you why. There are so many natural rugs out there and I've come across quite a few of them. This is my favorite, for both the quality and the price point (the 8 x 10 is only $200!).
The "knots" are the perfect size.. large enough to create the perfect texture but small enough so that it's comfortable. It's actually very soft underfoot, and gets softer with age. The rug is also reversible which is great.
"Flax" is the best color - it's that perfect jute color that goes with everything. Some natural rugs can be too orange or too ivory or too yellow. This is just right.
A funny little story about this rug... recently there was a huge downpour here in Charlotte and the shop I work at flooded a bit. One of these rugs got soaked and the shop owner was going to toss it. It was exactly the size and color I was going to purchase for our bathroom so I said, I'll take it!! I think she thought I was crazy (it was soaked and smelled a bit). But I aired it out and let it dry and it was good as new, and it's now in our bathroom :)
Also, the Dash & Albert rug that I was going to use under our kitchen table doesn't come in a 5 x 8... bummer. So I think I'll get another one of these West Elm rugs. I could easily put one in every room, but I'll restrain myself.
I know it sounds like West Elm is paying me for this endorsement, but they aren't. I genuinely love this rug and wanted to tell you about it!

Thanks...I was going to get a new seagrass, but I love that it comes in a light color! I will order the 9 x 12 today!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! This isn't the rug that got the ink stain on it, is it?
ReplyDeleteWe have this rug under our dining room table. I call it the crumb catcher...
ReplyDeleteits gorgeous though
you work in a shop? what kind?
ReplyDeletehi! i just recently started following your blog and I was so excited to see how excited you are about this rug because I OWN IT and it's in the foyer/office of my studio apt. I can decorate and choose furniture but something I can NEVER figure out it rugs. I need one for my living room (neighbors) and I have not the slightest idea what to get. Any suggestions? Oh have I mentioned I hate rugs and love my wood floors? It makes it difficult. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post! I was looking at these online pondering the colours etc. and wondering if I should order one and have it delivered to my mailbox over the border (I'm in BC Canada so don't have a West Elm location I could see or buy it at). Sounds like that colour is perfect for my space...love the price too.
ReplyDeleteThx Bryn!

I'll chime in and say that it's actually super comfortable. I was really surprised!
ReplyDeleteBryn,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the post!! I had just posted about a rug problem and here you are with the perfect solution. Your reminder of the CUTE Dash and Albert rug reminded me of Dash and Albert!! I don't know how I had forgotten about them. I now have the perfect rug for a project I'm working on. Thanks so much!!
what about shedding? we had a jute rug from pottery barn (that i loved), but it shed like mad! we took it back for a seagrass rug instead, but i agree... it is a bit on the yellow side.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post! I've been going back & forth with the idea of either a jute rug or a sisal rug for a while now. These may have sealed the deal for me!
ReplyDeletetips for Dash and Albert rugs - if you need them to be slightly smaller, wash them in cold water and the hang them to *mostly dry* then throw them in the dryer to finish drying. They will shrink perfectly.
ReplyDeleteWe did this with a runner. The length shrinks about a foot, but the width stays pretty constant and the rug still looks great after being washed.
p.s. this only works with the cotton rugs, not the indoor/outdoor weaves :)
I have been eyeing this rug in the "walnut" color for our entryway and am so glad to see a glowing review for it. I think I am going to go for it now! Thank you!
ReplyDeletelove it to..great rug and price.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation. I've been considering a rug of this type for a while. My worry is that my cats will rip it apart thinking it's their own personal scratching park. At this price though, it's not too big a deal to replace it after a few years. Any chance you have cats?
ReplyDeleteHow well does the jute hold up to wear and tear from pets? I've heard that it's more delicate and harder to clean than seagrass or mountaingrass.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for a rug for almost a year! This is one that I had looked at, but I need something that can be "customized". In your professional opinion, do you think it would be possible for a serger/binder guy (not sure what the official term for this would be) to cut a hearth indentation into this rug and then serge it or bind all the edges to match?
ReplyDeletehey, this may seem like a funny question to some of you, but does the rug smell funny? I have heard that some of the natural rugs have a funny smell...
ReplyDeleteOkay my question is can you vacuum it and if not how do you clean it?
ReplyDeleteit can be vacuumed and it's not easy to clean. I spilled red nail polish on it and with some polish remover and soap... I can't even find where I did that anymore. It is ideal for high traffic areas, that's why I bought it for the foyer. Dirt blends in with the unevenness of the threads so it's not so bad.
ReplyDeleteI've actually been on the lookout for a jute rug for our office/guest room - great find - thanks!
