I found this set of furniture on Craigslist, but the seller lived pretty far and I could not fit all three into my car. I asked if there was anyway he could deliver and he said YES!
I'm sure no one wanted them because of the very dirty and old upholstery, but I saw past that and I know they will be fabulous when recovered.

Guess how much I got these babies for? $65!
The two wing backs will go in our formal living room, and the loveseat will go in my office.
Now I just need to figure out what to reupholster them in. The possibilities are endless... but I'm thinking either white or black (with nailheads) can go the extra mile and show off the sexy curves of the chairs.
I know - pretty boring, but classic. However, I decided to keep this settee for our kitchen nook:
And it will get reupholstered in something super fun. Not sure what that is yet though.. I'll keep you posted.
HOMEOWNER TIP: If you cannot splurge on new furniture (like us)... buy used from Craigslist and reupholster. It's about half the cost of a new piece, and usually old pieces are much better quality!
Oh my gosh. I am green with envy! You got an amazing deal!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love finding things on Craig's List and then reupholstering. Can't wait to see what you decide to do with them!
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to live in an area where upholstery is so cheap. Reupholstering a couch costs more than a brand new one in NYC!
ReplyDeleteGreat deal Bryn! The loveseat is great!
ReplyDeleteSo I am curious, how big of an upholstery project will you tackle yourself (seat cushions maybe?) and when do you outsource? Also have you found any reasonably priced upholsters in the Charlotte area to share?
ReplyDeleteGreat deal! I think i like the black with the nail heads the best-it looks very "rich."
ReplyDeleteVery nice pieces! What a deal. I can not wait to see what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteCould you do a few DIY tutorials as you reupholster your new finds? I'm thinking about doing something similar when my husband and I move, but I'm nervous as I've never tried to reupholster anything... Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! Can't wait to see the end result. I've been craiglist hunting too. We move into a new house in 2 1/2 weeks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great deal! I cant wait to see what you do with them.
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing finds! I cannot wait to see the afters!
ReplyDeleteGreat deal!! I couldn't agree more about reupholstering (although, it's not at all inexpensive to do where I live). The quality of most old furniture is just so much better than new. I can't wait to see what you do with these! Do you plan on reupholstering yourself? That would be a major DIY feat!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea to keep the setee for your your breakfast nook!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to reupholster the wing back chairs? Do you have a tutorial on that? I find furniture all the time I would like reupholstered, but I haven't done it before. I dont want it to look like I did it either. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the black wingback chair. Amazing!
Man I wish Craigslist was more popular here (I live in Germany). That's a really great catch!
ReplyDeleteOK...where do I even go to get things reupholstered? I love the idea of half the price, but no idea where to start/what to ask, etc!
ReplyDeleteGreat pieces! My impression is that upholstery costs the same as a new chair or sofa in the NYC area, but I'm hoping you have some tips to prove me wrong.
ReplyDeletei was recently gifted 2 chairs exactly like that from my grandmother...I am excited! two questions, first I have never had anything reupholstered so what should i be expecting to spend and do you know of any great online places or stores near ATL for good priced fabric? Your awesome...THANKS!

SOOOO Cute!! That blue isn't awful either if you have to wait awhile. What a great set and that price makes me sick!! Total score.
ReplyDeleteTalk about a steal! I think where we live in CA our craiglist steals are few and far in between
ReplyDeleteI am soooo excited to see what you do with your place. And the more and more I see your work I'm excited to see what you do with my place!
ReplyDeletegreat finds at a great deal and with delivery. amazing. can't wait to see them re-done!
ReplyDeletei love your design aesthetic! amazing. i'd go with black for the chairs. you have such a good eye.
ReplyDelete65? OH wow Bryn, well done! they will look great!!
ReplyDeleteThose will be beautiful when reupholstered!
ReplyDeleteI have a related question for you too. I was reading on another blog about bedbugs getting in someone's house from used furniture or fabrics. Have you ever worried about that, and do you take any precautions? Just curious because I'd never thought about that, and it really freaked me out!
Can you do a how to for reupholstering furniture.. or you get it done professionally?
ReplyDeleteAMAZING! I love the black fabric with the nailhead trim, gorgeous! I need a lesson in Craigslist, I never can seem to find anything I like!
ReplyDeleteA black upholstered chair with nailheads is exactly what I need in my life. Time to hit up estate auctions!
ReplyDeleteBryn, you will love this. I had a customer give me two wings and a camel-back settee. Still haven't decided what I'm going to do them in either but will def. be posting when I complete!! Sweet deal, looking forward to your transformation!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do with them!
ReplyDeleteI really like the light with black embellishment :)
