My brother-in-law, Greg, has always been like a brother to me. I started dating Matt when Greg was 12 and I have watched him grow up. He's now a sophomore in college and such a well-rounded and smart student studying Economics at Duke.
Last year Greg spent most of his summer in Guatemala teaching Guatemalans the skills needed to build businesses and create entrepreneurships. Here is a little more about the initiative, taken from their website:
We [a group of Duke students] traversed the country helping women entrepreneurs and consulting for various small businesses and organizations. One weaving cooperative, Lema, stood out above the rest in terms of the quality of its goods and its dream for expansion. This group of women, above all others, helped inspire us to continue development and consulting work when we returned to school.
How amazing is that? These students (including my brother in law) dedicate their free time to help the women of Guatemala live their dream of growing their business.

I am also attempting to start my own business as an English tutor since I'll be staying home with my baby. Can I say all of them? They're gorgeous! Whichever one I'd get I'd use as a diaper bag as that's literally all I carry around any more. A 3 year old and a 3 month old mean craziness, and the need for diapers and changes of clothes.

I love the tote handbags, especially in the azure blue. ReplyDeleteI love this post. I live in Guatemala and have actually been to San Juan La Laguna and watched the women from Lema weave these beautiful products. I think it's great that you are using your reach to make a difference in a group of people who are really trying to improve their lives. The people of San Juan really have joined together as a community and believe in helping each other, which is not something that is common here. I hope that one day you can also visit them and this amazing country.

ReplyDeleteI love NGO's like this. There is one in Cambodia which helps children stay off the street and go to school by painting. (Cambodia's Children Painting Project). We bought 4 paintings from them while we were there and the kids were so sweet.
These are BEAUTIFUL! I would choose the summer beach handbag, even though it was a tough choice! It looks like the perfect bag for going to the lake and storing my book, snacks, sunscreen and water.

I love them all. My favorites are the sunshine yellow tote handbag and pathway cosmetic bag. The tote I would use for school or purse. I would use the cosmetic bag for my purse to keep thing organized or else when I travel on shorter trips.

ReplyDeleteI love them all. My favorites are the sunshine yellow tote handbag and pathway cosmetic bag. The tote I would use for school or purse. I would use the cosmetic bag for my purse to keep thing organized or else when I travel on shorter trips.

ReplyDeleteI love the Beach Handbag in fall or spring and the Tote Handbag in sunshine yellow, azure blue or burnt umber.
If I owned one, I would probably use it most days as my purse and on day trips out to the beach as such.
oh i so want that yellow tote! i would use it as a pool/beach bag!
