You have probably seen them at least once in your life. Maybe you own one. One of those.
You know what I'm talking about. The blanket that is so un-pretty yet so incredibly comfortable. We have one of those. It was made and given to us by my husband's mother. She reads the blog and even she can't deny they are ugly. She has a couple, too. And I know she keeps them out just as much as we do even when they aren't pretty.
I try to put it away in the closet and keep a pretty blanket out (I'm always cold, even in the summer). But sure enough, it comes back out and lands on the sofa.
Here is our sofa right now:
Even Char can't stay away!
So tell me people... do you have one of those blankets?
Is there ANYTHING that exists that is a pretty, chic, inexpensive* alternative that is just as soft and warm? This isn't a rhetorical question, I'd really like to know!
*I'm pretty sure if I could afford a cashmere blanket, I'd toss the fleece one in the fire. But I cannot afford a cashmere blanket.

check out kohl's or even burlington coat factory...they have down blankets that are super soft and cuddly or this fleece like but better than fleece blankets! and they are affordable and pretty!
ReplyDeletewe have a lot of blankets like that...some are for comfort and the others are to keep sweet Samantha's hair off the furniture...the ones that we could stand are in the "goodwill" box!
ReplyDeleteWe have a few really soft and comfy chenille blankets by Colorado Trading. They were fairly inexpensive and fit in very non-offensively with our decor! My only complaint is that their shape gets a little wonky and stretched out so when I fold them up they don't line up nicely.

ReplyDeleteI have about 6 off white fleece blankets from Ikea. They cost like $3.99 and they match my couch. They are warm and they wash well and when they get pilly and gross, I make dog blankets out of them.
ReplyDeletebecause i have kids, i have way too many UGLY blankets! every time we move, i manage to "lose" one or two more...sorry, but neon dinosaurs are an assault to my eyeballs!
ReplyDeleteand i just bought some of those cute little zebra mechanical pencils, and i love them! the zebra pens are my fave--i love the fine point black ballpoint ones!
I'm always cold too, even in the summertime. I has this fuzzy blanket my dad gave me years ago - that I still use even though its ugly its super warm!
ReplyDeleteI've seen some pretty cable knitted ones at Home Goods that are super pretty - I'm might get one of those for our sofa - and leave the ugly one out of site
We have a slanket! It's absolutely ugly but it's so warm and comfy. It's basically just a siamese snuggie, but we don't use the sleeves.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried The Company Store? I don't mind ugly blankets, because we just toss them in the closet when we have company.
Pottery Barn is selling a faux fur blanket right in a creme and a chocolate brown. It looks very luxurious and soft!

ReplyDeleteThat is the best blanket ever! It's fuzzy on one side and not the other. The fuzzy side is so cozy. It washes great too. Mine has gotten so much use (I was on bed rest for over 3 month and used it non stop). You will love it!
I have always found the most adorable, comfortable and affordable blankets at TJMaxx and/or Marshalls. They usually have really cute throws near the bedding section with all different patterns. I have about 4! I would recommend the animal prints!
ReplyDeleteI have a faux fur throw blanket that I love! It is so soft and cozy while still being pretty.
ReplyDeleteI have a faux fur blanket from target that looks just like the pottery barn one! We actually have 2 because we were sick of fighting over it! It's really soft and cozy I bring it to bed with me in the winter!
ReplyDeleteI couple of years ago my husband and I got one from his aunt - a Christmas one. It was donated before New Years!
ReplyDeleteWe have a really, soft (and long!) bamboo throw that was from Target's designer home collection last year. I think by the time I bought it, it was down to $10. I'll be so sad when it bites the dust.
ReplyDeleteI have a big fleece blanket collection, but I fold them up and store them in a storage bench (that I actually got from Ikea) so they're out of sight when not in use. The chenille blankets are a nice option if you want to leave one out. Although nothing is as comfy and warm as a good fleece blankie...;)
ReplyDeletePS Is that a tie fleece blanket I see? My stepmother made one of those for my son (and just about everyone else in the family)...lol...:)
I have the same problem - I have a few pretty throws but the one I always reach for when it's really cold is this terrible brown blanket with a tiger on it - I know, I am cringing as I write - that my boyfriend refuses to let go of. I would love to find something just as warm, maybe it'll make the separation easier. I hope your readers can help me too!
ReplyDeleteNo. There is nothing more comfortable than a cheap, ugly blanket. It's true.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks ago I made a blanket using a vintage tablecloth, it is the warmest thing I have ever had in my home and much bigger than any throw blanket I've ever bought.
ReplyDeleteI just sandwiched some bamboo batting between the tablecloth and some flannel and bound the edges with bias tape. Took an afternoon to sew and I love it.
Try Ikea! They have lots of patterns, solids, and textures to choose from. Always affordable too!
ReplyDeleteWe definitely have "one of those" blankets... but cashmere does sound nice!
ReplyDeletexoxo Laura
We totally have like 4 of those ugly blankets, all gifts!!! But they are oh so cozy!!!
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember a beautiful wool blanket that was shipped directly from the Aran Islands in Ireland. And now it is......
ReplyDeleteThese blankets are the BEST:

They are the NAP blankets...buy the queen size and not smaller cuz the smaller ones are thinner. My friend owned a few of these and my husband and I (and everyone who uses them) fell in love with them. They are the most luxurious blankets ever and are perfect for leaving out on the couch for yourself or guests to use when they are cold. They go on sale every one in awhile and brookstone has coupons too! Trust me...these are SO comfy and they look great too! :)
We have four baby quilts (ours and our two kids'), a snuggie, and a lap quilt I made my husband when we were dating...all in our living room! I just bought a storage ottoman, so problem solved. :)
ReplyDeleteI have a "feather fleece" blanket from Marshall's that is both softer and warmer than our heavy fleece monster. It is also much prettier.
ReplyDeleteI use organic cotton blankets in the twin size. I got mine on sale at Restoration Hardware. I noticed the other day that LL Bean Home has organic cotton blankets for a pretty good price. Of course, it will be even better when they go on sale. Also check CB2, Amazon, West Elm, and Rawganique. The nicest blanket I own is from the last place. All of the cotton is from the U.S..
ReplyDeleteHead to TJ Maxx and look for Berkshire Blankets BunnySoft (on a hanger). They're about $20 and feel unbelievable!

ReplyDeleteI have a faux fur throw blanket that I love! It is so soft and cozy while still being pretty.
