Please tell me I'm not the only one....

Please tell me I'm not the only one who loves searching for houses even though we are no where near buying a house.

I like to see what we could get in our price range and also play make believe in my head how I would renovate.

I found this gem today...

Pretty poorly decorated, but amazing bones. I love the beams, I would like them stained a bit darker though. And perhaps painted white in the bedroom.

Ah, one can dream.

While we're at it, let's pick some furnishings for it, too [not all necessarily for the same room]:

  1. Hi I recently discovered your blog and love it! Due to the nature of my husband's job we won't be buying a house anytime in the near future but I love searching for pictures as designing inspiration for our dream home!

  2. I love those beams and the lightness of that room. I do the same thing and look at a ton of homes, just to see what is out there.

  3. i certainly do it all the time, but i do it WAAAAAY out of my price range. which is just really depressing b/c when i look at what i CAN afford it is usually a shitbox with terrible bones.

that house you showed though is amazeballs.

  4. Oh my, you are NOT alone in this. I love looking around for homes I love and imagining myself in the rooms and the neighborhood. My confession is that I'm looking at these ads even though my husband and I aren't financially ready, especially since he's still in school, and what's more, I'm looking for houses in Oregon while we live in Utah. =) A girl can dream, eh?

  5. Sara- confession. This home is completely across the country where I image we'll be when we have kids.

  6. It's gorgeous! Don't worry, I have been doing that for years and I'm only 20. It's an obsession. It all starts with House Hunters, at least for me, and branches out from there until the point where you are spending hours looking at houses you will never own. I love doing it though. It makes you better educated!

  7. I second Sara @ Dream in Domestic. I'm 22 and have been looking at homes for sale since I was probably 14! I just liked looking inside and getting the general idea of prices in different areas, and yes, I believe it started with House Hunters for me too...

  8. those beams are beauteous!

I used to do it before we were ready, and even now that we own, i still find myself dreaming of a bigger, better house. This isn't our forever house, so i guess i am justified! ;-)

  11. I definitely look for new houses all the time - I'm really big into fixer-uppers, so I spend way too much time looking at houses and renovating them in my mind. The house you found is really gorgeous!

  12. I use to search for houses all the time before we were ready to buy a house. Then I would find out fall in love and get mad when it was sold.

  13. I pretty much do this with every house I walk into and wonder what would it look like if we lived there. My favorite is decorating (in my head) my grandmother's (empty) 1950's ranch to conform to our taste and function. Crazy?

  14. I definately spend way too much time on MLS and I have no plans to move anytime soon!

  15. I did that obsessively before buying. BTW, looks like the feds are going to extend the 8k first time buyer credit and expand it to current homeowners, too!

  16. You are definitely not alone. We just bought this summer, and when we are ready to move on, we are screwed, because I will be looking before we actually sell our condo to someone...

  17. I do it all the time, you are not alone. It makes me sad though because in Boston we can afford a basement apartment with no windows and no parking or something with windows in a really, REALLY bad area. Its loose loose around here and so depressing. I think we need to move South, they seem to have amazing homes for a fraction of the cost in Boston.

  18. Me! We're totally not near buying a house but I do love to browse. We're not even sure what country we'll be living in next year, but I still like to look here and in my hometown!
