Just curious... are you going to re-read New Moon before seeing the movie? Or do you want your New Moon book memories to be foggy in order to fully appreciate the movie? I haven't decided yet.
And yes, this is a serious question, those Twlighters out there will understand.

That's a good question...
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about starting the entire series again (since it's been about a year since finishing, and I miss them).
Maybe I'll reread the first one before the movie, so the movie can act as my continuation and wait to reread New Moon until after.
Since the book will be better (I find almost all books to be better than the movies that follow), that way the movie will be great without having the wonderful book writing fresh in my head??
Ramblings from ChasingDavies. :)

Undecided... at first I was going to, but remembered I saw Twilight a few months after I had read the books and I didn't have crushed expectations as a result. Keeping the book a little separate from the movie lets you appreciate both.
ReplyDeleteOk so what I did last year was watch the movie and then reread all the books. It's fun because you're reading them around Christmastime so it's a nice way to relax around the holidays!! I'll probably do that again this year :)
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention my guilty pleasure....I just finished reading New Moon again! I have to say, it was sooo much better the second time because I wasn't rushing through it. I think you should read it again before the movie!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat as you-not sure yet. Originally I planned to re-read it, but now I'm starting to think it might be better if it's a little foggy in my memory so that I don't just critique the movie while I'm watching it and wonder about what they left out from the book. I really want to be able to just enjoy the movie! Can't wait to hear what others say!
ReplyDeleteBTW, this is my first time commenting, but I love your blog!
Yeah, I'm also undecided. I want to re-read it but don't want to spend the movie nit-picking what was left out. I like Chasing Davies idea of reading the first one and then seeing New Moon.
ReplyDeleteI loved all the books in the series, but couldn't stand the movies. I'm debating re-reading the entire series again because I liked them so much (and I won't be rushing through it).
ReplyDeleteI reread it in late June...I wanted a refresher, but also wanted to give myself some distance before the movie comes out.
ReplyDeleteWhat's interesting to me is that when I first read the series, I wasn't that into NM or Jacob at all...I was just OBSESSED with Edward and wasn't that interested in any plot lines in which he wasn't directly involved. Now, on the second read, I actually find myself swaying more towards Team Jacob. I like Jacob's sensitivity and realism.
That said, I recommend rereading it b/c of the whole new perspective it gave me.
And FYI...the New Moon birthday party paper goods are available for order on Friday. In case anyone wants to eat some carrot cake off of Edward or Jake (like my bff and I plan to do for her birthday next month), you can find them here: http://www.birthdaydirect.com/twilight-party-supplies-c-1076_3107.html. LOL!!!
I think I am going to re-read it... funny you mention it, I was just obsessing about it last night. Should I? Shouldn't I? After reading all four (in a VERY short amount of time) the story lines from each are blurring...
ReplyDeleteI just recently reread it. It's much better the second time around.
ReplyDeletei am not re-reading new moon before the movie. this way i will be pleasantly surprised!
ReplyDeleteHey Bryn,
ReplyDeleteI think I'm NOT going to re-read New Moon. I want to keep the movie series separate from the book series. It worked better for me with Twilight...I don't want to disappointed with every little detail that's left out! Did you see my Bella wedding dress post the other day?!
http://the-bright-life.blogspot.com/2009/09/and-so-wedding-planning-begins.html
I don't think I'll re-read New Moon. I discovered that it's better if you don't have all the details of the book in your head when you go see the movie when I saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this summer. I enjoyed the movie without being bothered by the little differences from the book because I hadn't read it in a few years. I'm thinking New Moon will be the same way.
ReplyDeleteDefinately re-read it. I reread the whole series earlier this summer and it was great. I had forgotten enough of the details so I was hooked again!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm....can't say I've thought about that, in particular. I HAVE thought about re-reading the entire saga, just for my own Edward pleasure! ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm just thrilled they're releasing the film in Brazil the same day as the U.S., so I don't have to wait (and pout!)
The NM trailers look sooooo yummy!
I'm not going to read it again - but I never read books twice. Right now the trailers have me so excited to see the movie, I'm just going to keep riding on that until it comes out!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not re-reading. I watched the Twilight movie THE DAY I finished the book and was pretty disappointed in the movie. Too many comparisons and "oh, that's not how it happens in the book." So I'm going with fogginess this time. And after seeing the New Moon trailer I'm pretty excited for 11/20/09!
ReplyDeleteI think I would vote for foggy memories- because otherwise I will ruin the movie for myself by comparing the two constantly. And the movie is not a theatrical reenactment of the book- it is an adaption. It is not a book- it is a movie. I have a hard time with that. I want the movie to be the book acted out in front of me.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah- I will not be rereading it- I will try to just enjoy the movie for what it is and then reread the book later if I want.
No rereading. I like foggy memories. I'm planning to reread AFTER watching the movie.
ReplyDeleteI'm not re-reading. I also think a little distance makes me appreciate both the book and the movie a bit more, and not spend the whole time thinking "that's not what happened in the book!"
ReplyDeleteI didn't like NM the first time I read it, it really emphasizes how unhealthy Edward and Bella's relationship is. I re-read the series this summer and probably won't re-read again before the movie.
ReplyDeletewont have time to reread, but i should. when i went to see the last harry potter it didnt even seem reminiscent of the book. perhaps i should've reread it. however, twilight is far less complex than harry potter, so i think it'll be okay. not to say it isnt fun, just a far less intricate web.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading New Moon for the second time. I am one of those people who likes the movies regardless of how the book is.
ReplyDeleteSo even though Twilight the movie and Twilight the book are a little different I still appreciate both for their seperate but equal entertainment qualities.
I would read it now {you will be done in a few days anyway} and then just hype yourself up on the trailers!!!!
I'm leaving it foggy because i saw the first movie RIGHT after I read the book and was disapointed. not in the movie just i had pictured it differently. this way, the movie will be my reminder and exciting! :)
ReplyDeleteRe-reading New Moon again, for sure (for like the third time)! Love the new trailer!
ReplyDeleteAs an Twilight site moderator, I feel like I am obligated to re-read them. But, that's ok! I love New Moon more and more every time I read.
ReplyDeleteI read the whole series last fall before the movie came out...and New moon was my LEAST favorite book, so I have no plans to reread it...
ReplyDeleteI thought about it after seeing the trailer last night and not remembering much. But then I talked to my co-worker about it, and we filled each other in.
ReplyDeleteI probably wont re-read it before the movie just because I have so many others in my to be read pile.
The first movie disappointed me, and I don't know if it was because I had recently read the book or just because it was more low-budget than Nee Moon is goog to be. I'm still debating on rereading, but I think I'll wait until after.
ReplyDeleteno way!! that book was soo hard to read. i was gutted all thru that damn book!! i felt like my heart would explode. i just watched the trailer on the MTV awards. so excited!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh boy! After much resistance, I just got into this series about two weeks ago. I'm on the third book right now and couldn't love it more. At first I thought I'd feel silly for reading them, but I CAN'T STOP!
ReplyDeleteI watched the first movie today. I'd already seen it before I read the books, but decided to rent it again. It just wasn't the same after reading the books. I hear the second one is supposed to be waaaaay better. I'm crossing my fingers!
just about ready to re-read the entire series, and think I will do so before the movie.
ReplyDeletehaha, you're so cute. i love that you posed this question. and yes, it is very serious for us twilighters.
ReplyDeletei don't think i'll re-read before the movie. when i saw twilight i had JUST read the book and was pretty disappointed because i wanted the movie to be an exact play-by-play of the book! obviously that was an unrealistic expectation...
anyway, i'm glad to see that people (in your comments) are saying that new moon is way better the second time around. it was my least fave and i really rushed it. now i'm kinda looking forward to reading it again...after the movie :)
I'm rereading it right now! So excited for the movie. And I just saw that Nordstrom is going to carry New Moon clothing in the Juniors BP dept.! Even though it's in the juniors dept, I'm definitely getting myself a few pieces (and I'm 30!).
ReplyDeleteHere's the link if anyone is interested. And my salesperson at Nordies told me there is a special gift with purchase too!

I actually already reread it and was surprised how different I felt toward Jacob this time knowing how the series ends. I feel i love with him and I'm totally annoyed with Bella. :) It's interesting because I'm not too sure how that happened because I felt the opposite the first time around.
ReplyDeleteI still need to wrestle New Moon from my daughter to read it. Gotta get on it.
ReplyDeleteLess than 6 months after finishing the series, I re-read all of them. It started w/ finally reading Midnight Sun... then I decided I wanted to read Twilight again, then I decided to read New Moon again, u know, before the movie... couple weeks later I had finished the entire series again LoL I think it'll be best that once the movie comes out it will have a been a couple months since I've read New Moon... probably give the movie a better chance to impress me!
ReplyDeleteWell I read the books before I saw the first movie. In my opinion the first book was way better then the movie. But keeping up with the trailers this second movie looks much better than the first. I'm trying to read New Moon again before the movie just so I can have a brush up on it. Something’s I can't remember and then I see them in the trailer and I start questioning what I remember. FYI the new trailer I found last night ROCKS!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Bryn - First time posting on your blog, but I thought you should know I read it all the time and I love your style.
ReplyDeleteMy vote for New Moon is a re-read. Although it makes me notice how much the movies have to cut out, it also helps me fill in all the little details in my mind as I'm watching. I do the same thing with Harry Potter :)
I just saw the trailer and it looks excellent!
hmmm might have to ponder this one for awhile. probably will skip the re-read. it usually means i will be happier with the movie! :D
ReplyDeleteI just read it for the first time and had seen some trailers before I had started. I'm glad I read it close to the movie - there were some things that I may have been questioning! I'm on to Eclipse now. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteNah, I won't bother re-reading as it will be different anyway.
ReplyDeleteI had heard they were combinbing 2 and 3 for this movie?
Oooh great question! :)
ReplyDeleteI watched the Twilight movie before reading the book and felt like I was missing tons of information. So, I read The Twilight Saga for the first time in June...read the entire thing again in August...and am already itching to read it again! I just can't get enough of those books! I watched the movie again after reading the books, and it was great to have all of the details fresh in my mind. So, I'm going to read New Moon again right before the movie comes out.
What are you going to do?
The End
...I basically just typed a novel, so I thought "The End" was only fitting :)
I think I'm going to read the whole series again... for the third time. It's a problem.
