Yesterday I stopped by the local Salvation Army. Oh man, did they have amazing furniture. I wanted to buy it all! But of course, I couldn't and didn't.*
But what I did find was a beautiful still life oil painting! There are so many things I love about it. It's a mint green with robins egg blue accents... it even has a little nest with robins eggs in it. It also has oranges [Orange County]. I like art that means something.
I almost didn't buy it - what was I thinking?? Then another shopper walked by, who looked like he knew what he was doing, and said "wow, great find". I walked straight to the checkout.
When I got home, I couldn't believe how perfect it was for my robin's egg blue console table.
Can you believe these pillows (on the couch) have been sitting in their plastic wrap in the garage for at least a year? I got them mega on sale from Cost Plus. I recently found them when cleaning the garage, and voila - they match perfectly with the newly painted console. I love when things just fit like that.
I have to admit, I love the softer pallet I've gone with in this room. The bright yellow stripes were fun, but just didn't fit. I think I'm moving it up to the bedroom.
*It's times like these, when I see so many great things while on a impromptu shopping trip that I want to blog about, that I wish I had a [really nice] camera phone. This brings me to the rug situation.... due to a couple of reasons, I am forgoing the rug for now and I think I may ask for an iPhone for my birthday instead. One main reason is because Charlotte has been having some post-surgery potty issues and I'd hate for a nice new rug to be ruined.

ReplyDeleteThat painting is fantastic! You've inspired me to get down to our Salvation Army and see if I can find something just as amazing!
ReplyDeleteEvery time you show your living room I always find myself drooling over the mirror above your fireplace. Where did you find that stunning piece?

ReplyDeleteOK, so this has probably been asked of you a million times and I just miss it- but what kind of camera do you use? I'm in the market for a new camera and all the shots of your house always look so beautiful!
I like the softer palette too. I honestly would never pick it- because I would be afraid to look like a grandma- but you are pulling it off with such grace. Maybe someday (when we have the room) I will give it a try.
ReplyDeleteyou're either really lucky to have great thrift stores or or really lucky to snag these finds...either way, it's gorge!
ReplyDeleteGreat find! I had a lighter palette in my home, but I just couldn't get it to work. :(
ReplyDeleteInstead of the expensive iPhone, why don't you search Craigslist for a gently used point and shoot? My husband is a HUGE thrifter, and the camera on his phone never really worked for him. So, we took off the camera I was selling on Craig's for $20 and he put it in the glove box of his car. He just brings it with him into shops now. :)
It looks like the painting was MADE for your home... great find!
ReplyDeleteLove the pillows...and that painting is perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous home. It looks so calm and inviting. I'm always scouting thrift stores for good art, but I haven't had any luck yet!
ReplyDeleteI love the way your house is starting to evolve to match your evolving sensibilities.
ReplyDeleteI think you should still get the rug.
