There is just something about spring that brings out the ambition in me. Last year in March, I re-painted the office. This year............ is a much bigger ambition.
I plan on painting the house. Yes, pretty much the entire inside of the house. Currently, there is this goldish-yellow-beige that covers the house:
At first I didn't mind it. Then I grew to prefer something else, then I just grew to dislike it. It's probably why I don't feature the house too much here on the blog. So I sent out a request to my in-laws to paint the entire house*, and they came back with a yes! It needed a fresh coat of paint anyway and I'm doing all the labor so it's a win win for them. I'm going with a "griege" - a grayish beige. I think it will be a great neutral, and won't blend in with the floors, furniture and drapes as much.
Currently, my contenders are Revere Pewter and Stingray (both Benjamin Moore). I'm planning on painting large swatches on the walls tonight, so I thought I'd make it official and post my plans today :) No backing out now!
Of course, I'll blog my adventure; the good, the bad and the ugly. I know my arms, back and core are going to be killing me in the next couple weeks, it's going to be a big, grueling job. The rooms I need to cover are:
- living room
- dining nook
- kitchen
- entryway/stairs
- tiny little upstairs
- upstairs and master bathrooms (maybe)
But by doing the labor myself will save hundreds of dollars and it will be a great workout. It will take me a couple weeks, but I've consulted a local paint shop and the total for paint will only be around $140 for the whole job.
And don't think the ambition stops there - I have a few other projects up my sleeve that involves a lot of DIY action, too. It should be a fun, busy spring/summer!
*My husband's parents own the home we live in and we rent it from them, which is why they get final say on house projects. They are undeniably generous and we are forever grateful to them for letting us rent this amazing home while we are in our poor early-twenties, newlyweds stage of our lives.

you dont like greige... you LOVE it
ReplyDeleteperfect, can't wait to see the results!!
ReplyDeleteRevere p-one (lol) looks a bit deeper and richer but the OTHER one is the one i like bc i feel as if it would mathc your hardwood floors better, but who knows!! Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteBryn i am sure your first home will be a jem...hopefully we will get to see it here...but what you are doing with that house is great..its adding great style and character!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you mentioned the renting thing. I'm in my early 30's & own 900sq ft of bliss here in LA. Everytime you posted your home I would rack my brain trying to figure out how you scored such a killer home!
ReplyDeleteI knew you were the budget queen but was starting to think I was missing something. :)
Love the idea of greige. I'm curious how it will look in your LR with all that light!
Can't wait to see the results.
I really love the beigy grey colors. I can't wait to see the progress!
ReplyDeleteWe love our bluige (blue-gray). I think I vote for the Stingray, because I also think it will go better with your floors.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to see what you chose Bryn. They are both fabulous colors and will look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous! I have been on the biggest grey binge forever. We are going to start looking for a house at the end of next month, and I cannot wait to paint our house as well. I love the Revere p-one, but I think the Stingray color would go better with your floors. I cannot wait to see what each look like on the walls.
ReplyDeleteGreige will be so freaking hot. I can't imagine that any suggestion for the house would be rejected by the in-laws...your taste is flawless :)
ReplyDeleteI am definitely looking forward to seeing the before&after's...especially in the spaces that I haven't seen...like the kitchen (how did I miss that post?!?)
My living room and dining room are Revere Pewter. You can see photos of them here (www.habitatforkris.blogspot.com). I love this color! It looks great with my wood floors and goes with every other color.
ReplyDeleteLove those colors - can't wait to see!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I've posted here before, but I've been reading your blog for a bit and it's fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI'm an interior designer, and I'm at work, so I pulled out my fandecks to take a look at the colors. My vote is for Revere Pewter as it is really rich and the more "greige" of the two. Stingray actually has a green tint to it and is grouped with the "cool neutrals" in the benjamin moore color palette. Your furniture and curtains are really warm, so it might look a little wonky if you mix a cool paint color with them.
Have you thought about putting an accent color (or maybe just a shade darker or lighter) on the fireplace? It's a good focal point and now it just sort of blends in with the walls.
Best wishes with your latest undertaking! It's going to look great!
ReplyDeleteOoOoH I like them both! This is primarily the same reason I don't feature my home much... why did builders feel this was a good color to paint the ENTIRE house in?? WTF?
ReplyDeleteI have to say that every time I see pictures of your living room I start to drool. It is stunning and so elegant- I love the windows and light that you get.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your changes! Those are great colors that will allow you to have fun with some bright accents.
Those are really great colors....I can't wait to see how it turns out! You have a beautiful home:)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I posted about the flea market trip:)
ReplyDeleteI vote for the revere pewter!! Also, are you planning on painting your ceilings too? We didn't in our bedroom and living room, and I've always regretted it. We are also about to embark on a nearly entire interior paint-a-thon too, and we are finally going to paint the ceilings...
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! It is a great workout and I can't wait to see the finished project!
ReplyDeleteGreige is amazing. Best of luck! Can't wait to see the results!
ReplyDeleteRevere Pewter is a beautiful color that I use on projects a lot. I even have it in my own dining room. It's not too dark at all. It's the perfect neutral, greige color.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the update!
Sounds like you are going to have a busy DIY project. Enjoy!!! Can't wait to see the results. :)
ReplyDeleteIn Laws owning home... We did the same from age 22 to 25 then we bought out home! We loved the help and they really helped us understand home ownership!
ReplyDeleteMy parents have Revere Pewter in the upstairs of their house and it is lovely! Their upstairs doesn't get as much light as your living room, but I know it would be beautiful in a well-lit room!
